Thanks! I probably wrote it in the initial post of the thread, but the idea of crawling up from under the dirt came because I broke off one Warrior's foot, and didn't want to waste an entire fig for that. I made him partially buried in the sand, and then realized that I could stretch out the extra bits into full individuals by doing these kind of conversions. Plus, I just LOVE doing conversions, so it's a win-win!

Thanks! I used a Lychguard body to make sure that it wasn't too small for the proportions of the Chaos Termie. The Ork Nob one I'm working on has a Necron Destroyer torso, to try to better match the Orky proportions...

As someone who is just starting their own Necron army, I have been scouring the forums lately for other cool Necron threads.
Somehow I have missed this one, and only just seeing it now, have to say I am pretty impressed.
I LOVE the scarab bases, with the Eldar bits, and I'm liking the flayed one conversions too.
Will definitely keep an eye on this one..!

Late last night I was working on an objective marker - a huge pile of skulls, Eldar helmets and weapons, and other assorted debris piled up and in flames (like a pyre). Also, have a "Dire Avenger Exarch" as well as some Space Marines ( BA DC & SG, DA, Lit Claw Termie) almost photo-worthy. So keep your eyes on this space for more fun conversions and excessively cussed-over bases!

Long time no post! I have some pretty good excuses though:
-Wife gave birth to first baby! A son! now 2 months old.
-Accepted to grad school! Now have to move from Illinois to California
-Finishing up final semester at current grad school - grading papers, writing papers, grading tests, turning in late assignments, emailing everyone...
But I got my Wave 2 stuff, though nothing's assembled yet. I got some nifty conversion plans though. This is just a quick update. I decided that since I always waffle so much on my color scheme(s) I would go with one of GW's. Normally I wouldn't do this, but I REALLY like the "Nihilakh Dynasty" color scheme in the WD/Codex. And since they give a step-by-step in the new WD, it's easy as pie.
Now I can paint my guys without constantly changing my mind, and save my energy for conversions, which is what I REALLY love
So, without further ado, here's my first Scarab base in the color scheme, with a scenic base:
A slightly better, higher shot:
I've touched these up a little with some new GW Citadel Shade paints/inks/glaze, but this is the basic idea. More pics of more Scarabs and Warriors to come shortly!

Thanks man! Just wait til I get a certain package in the mail and begin constructing a kit-bashed Necron war machine. It will likely be a "counts-as" Triarch Stalker, but will look very, very different...
I shall post progress on that conversion hopefully soon. But then again, the move from Illinois to Cali may destroy any semblence of free time in which to construct it. So maybe a month or so hiatus. I certainly hope that isn't the case, but much of this is beyond my control.

so, to save myself time and the hassle of my constant waffling, I decided to paint my Necrons in the "Nihilakh Dynasty" colors, which I think are pretty darn cool-looking. I have some slight modifications, but on the whole, I'm sticking to that particular GW scheme.
So, without further ado, IMMORTALS!

Thanks man! The Gauss effect is great because it is a rather lengthly and tedious process I've been using mostly the new "Citadel Shade" paints, washes, and inks. Here's how I do it:
1. Undercoat with Ceramite White
2. Basecoat with Caliban Green
3. Layer on some Warpstone Glow
4. Drybrush some Moot Green (these are actually done with Vallejo Games Color Scorpy Green, which is basically the same thing)
5. Drybrush with a yellower green like Moot/Scorpy/Striking Scorpion Green (forgot the name of the Vallejo Model Color paint I'm using)
6. Wash with Cordelia Greenshade
7. Drybrush with Moot, then Yellower Green again
8. Drybrush and EVEN YELLOWER Green than above. Almost totally yellow green.
9. Glaze with Lamentor's Yellow (I LOVE these new GW Glazes)
10. One final highlight with that super-yellow green
And Voila! there you have it.
Gotta post more pics - I re-did that Objective Marker to make the big crystal green rather than red, using the above process.
More pics soon!

Long time, no update, but I've been busy! Moved across the country from Illinois to California! I'm in Irvine, Orange County - big change from small town in the corn fields!
But I've been keeping busy, and slowly my Necron force is coming along. I picked up a Night Scythe, and have been chugging along with painting the Troops (Warriors, Immortals, and Scarabs). I altered my colors cheme slightly, but I'll have to post pics of that later (soon!)
For now, here's my first SUPER CREEPY Cryptek!
Side (& base)) views:
Still have to touch up the left arm, and finish the greenstuff filling in on the cloak, but this gives you the basic idea.
I wanted to make all my Crypteks look very different from each other, and from my army. Since Crypteks are supposed to be "free agents" so to speak, I decided to model and paint them each with their own distinctive look. This guy is sort of a creepy, cult/witch kinda guy. Or at least that was the feel I was going for.
A question: What color scheme do you think I should paint him in?
Based on his appearance, and the sort of "spooky, mysterious, cult-y" feel I'm shooting for, what would be some good colors to use? My main army colors are sort of a Tan/Bleached Bone color (main body), Turquoise (like the Nihilakh - shoulder pads, etc.), and Gold (heads, accents, more for fancier characters), and Yellowish-Green (for tubes, optics, wires, etc.). I want the Crypteks to all have their own unique color schemes though. Please give me some advice on what selection of colors might work well for a guy like this (and thanks in advance!!
For the base, I used the Secret Weapon slightly hollow/lipped skull bases. They're meant to put gore effects in (so your mini is wading through blood and bones). This works great for me, as I add sand to all my bases, as well as skulls (in addition to other scenic bits). Half the work is already done, with the skulls there in the base, and i have space to add in the sand
Please post any advice, comments, etc. (especially suggestions for color scheme of this guy!)
Thanks Dakka!

I like the scheme you've gone with on this last page much better than the white of the OP... would love to see a bit more weathering, though.
I love this new WIP, although I don't have advice on how to paint it. It's great the way you're just going for it with conversions

Thanks! Yeah, I wasn't satisfied with the white scheme either. It'd be fine for Tau maybe, but the Necrons need to be more weathered, and darker, I feel.
I actually changed the scheme though: most of the parts that are silver, or at least the body of the Troops (Warriros and Immortals) have now been repainted in a weathered-looking bleached bone scheme. I'll post pics, but this is the process to give you an idea:
1. base with Zandri Dust (new medium darkish brown/desert-color "Base" GW Paint)
2. wash with Seraphim Sepia (new sepia/brown GW ink wash)
3. slight drybrush with Zandri Dust (as "Base" colors don't work as drybrush colors that well)
4. drybrush with Tyrant Skull (new bleached bone color "Dry" GW Paint)
5. drybrush with Terminatus Stonel (new paler/whiter bleached bone color "Dry" GW Paint)
6. if necessary, drybrush with Praxeti White (new white "Dry" GW Paint)
The drybrushing gives them a little more of a weathered feel, and on vehicles and characters, I can take the time to make that more pronounced. I'll post pics soon, since I've gotten about 10 or so guys fully finished, bases and all.
Any great painters out there care to suggest some good colors?

No one else has any suggestions for a color scheme that would make this guy look really spooky-creepy? Like a Scooby-Doo villain? He'll get away with it, if it isn't for you meddling kids!

Hrm, not a bad idea. I'm leaning towards something earth-tone oriented for the cloak, but I also want the very little parts of the Necron metal underneath to really contrast with whatever the cloak is. Maybe I should get some Night Goblins and test out a few paint schemes...
Thanks guys!
