Seriously people, why the hell are you wasting your time with this crap? How many times do you have to be told that GW does not care about online petitions? NO COMPANY DOES. You couldn't possibly do anything more pointless than organizing an online petition.

Write a letter instead. They'll still ignore it, but there's a good chance they might actually read it before throwing it in the garbage.

BTW if you don't wanna hear anger and hate then don't post links to online petitions. Though I'll admit I might have come off a little too dickish here, but I have no regrets.

You possibly should have a few regrets.

There really isn't any reason to go too crazy on someone for posting a link to this.

Stay calm everyone - we'll figure this all out eventually...

I think this is going to make more people in the US start up clubs to play 40k.They will stop going to GW stores and buying stuff off the shelf and start buying counts as stuff from other companies. Also the GW-GT is now meaningless because you can buy a ticket to the Vegas GT now so the tourney argument is moot.

Gathering the Informations.

People don't "go to GW stores" here in the US for the most part.

There are virtually no GW stores to go to.

They're not going to stop going to FLGSes though.

Meh, I mailed GW a well worded, eloquent letter, and enclosed a human toe.

This morning, I was told it was supposed to be the toe of someone valuable to them, and not my own.

Oh well, it's a learning experience.

There are some who walk until their legs fail them and they fall to the ground. I find that respectable.
Then there are those who drag themselves further. I find that admirable.

Hmmm... I didn't realize it was time for the semi-annual "Online petition to get GW to lower their prices". It sorta sneaks up on you, like daylight savings time.

Sorry to state the obvious, but it's not going to work. This has been tried in the past with no effect. GW reviewed their financials, decided this is their strategy, and implemented the change. No amount of nerd-rage is going to change it. As others have said, stop buying it if you don't like the prices. It's not food or gas, it's a luxury item.

Right now I'm hoping for one of two things to happen (wishful thinking):

1. Constant prices increases and poor public relations drive GW into the ground over the next 2-5 years. Shareholders get upset over the direction of the company and demand change.

2. A string of bad decisions leads to severe financial troubles resulting in a bankruptcy (with change of management and restructuring) or sale of the company to another game company that appreciates their customers and supports the WFB/40k community.

I know it's wishful thinking. We see the path this company and its leadership are taking. I don't see any change in direction without some big shake up or shareholder revolt.

Why does everyone have to argue about the stupidest stuff here? Sign it, write a letter, and control how much money you are willing to spend at GW. Why can't a person do all three? Its relatively effortless. Thanks for linking to it. And yeah its a crap petition that seems to be designed to make you think you have to donate, but it says right at the top that your submission has been accepted.

Ugh, the naysayers on petitions annoy the gak out of me. How bout you take 5 secs to fill it out and hit send. You spend more time bitching and complaining and trolling then it takes to just shut up and sign. Not to mention if you followed that logic, petitions would be FAR more effective because there would be more signatures on them

We all need to keep up the momentum. If we shout loud enough and long enough they will have to listen. I'm surprised at those who go to great lengths to say it won't work. If you don't complain you don't get.

True, there is no need to argue. It's that this comes up with every price increase. It has never worked. My current profile has been on this site since 2006 and I was here a few years before that. Year after year GW makes poor decisions, people freak out and demand change. The online petition drive is getting tired. It' been tried and failed. Let it go. If you want to make a difference, get a real petition going.

Ugh, the naysayers on petitions annoy the gak out of me.

People that log in to make negative comments about someone else's opinions annoy the gak out of me. If you support it, then sign it. No need to come on and put others down just because they don't agree with you.

*EDIT: Argue vs. Debate. Just to let it be known, I have no problem with the petition. Go ahead and do it if it makes you feel better. It is just my opinion that it wont' work and is a waste of time. Maybe it's time to try something else. Remember the quote "Insanity is repeating the same mistakes and expecting different results"

But what about naysayers who don't want to sign and want to point out that the premise of the petition is flawed and not simply the general waste of time online petitions usually are.

To protest the recent decisions by GW, I'm going streaking through the park.

I'm so sick of all the naysayers that tell me to put my clothes back on. How can I change the world if I'm not allowed to do something that won't change anything?

I agree that it's likely to do nothing, I've been in this hobby 24 years and have seen GW prices go up and up. My point was merely to say just sign it. Its so easy in this day and age that it took 2 minutes to sign. Even if its fruitless, taking action at least gives you the right to bitch .

Ultimately its economics that will prove the best point. My friends and I have started trying out other games and they are fun. It wouldn't bother me to just keep the armies I have and buy from different companies.

Signed my own petition like this years ago by not buying any GW related materials. While admittedly I did buy a few things last year from the new DE...it was so I could continue to play with the DE I have within the scope of the new rules and for the few people I still get to have the occasional game. I've also dusted off lots of my old Battletech miniatures, purchased the new Introductory Box Set (Cheaply from Amazon) and will now invest my time in that.

If anything signing said petition will at least make those signing it feel a bit better. Ultimately you have to decide where the line is drawn. Pricing, while being annoying, is low on the totem for me. However, to set a policy which isolates an entire hemisphere from acquiring items cheaply is just wrong. I won't support this kind of blatant marketing decision.

The IP will survive...GW...I hope not.

I think this is part of the problem though. People sign it because it's easy and it makes them feel like they've done something. And then because they tried and it didn't work, they resign themselves to buying overpriced GW miniatures. "Things will never change," "It's a luxury," "Still cheaper than golf," then start creeping out as ways to rationalize it.

We don't owe GW anything (despite their presumption that we are their "followers"). If the minis are too expensive, DON'T BUY THEM. You don't need to finish your army, you don't need to catch yourself up to a certain point value, you don't need just a couple more purchases so you can be finished. Stop paying ridiculous prices. Petitions are for weak parties to band together and persuade the strong by weight of numbers. We hold the money, therefore we are the strong party. GW is the weak party. They need us, not the other way around.

I don't think so. First off, chances are the people who could do something will never actually see it, and second off, the reason why this doesn't work is because its the Internet: It's full of griefers and ballot stuffers. There's no way to validate the legitimacy of signers. It also doesn't have the emotional element that a legal pad full of hand-written signatures does.

It's the difference between me making a Christmas card, and hand signing it, versus me buying a hallmark card and rubberstamping it with my signature.

No.

Please no.

Signing internet petitions is easy, very easy. That's why no company cares about them.

Same with email or web comments.

If you want to impress them write a letter, on paper, address it to the President and send it by mail.

Be polite. Be firm. And carry through any threats you make (I quit forever!)

They won't care about anything else.

Not true. Here in the San Francisco Bay Area....there are 3 GW stores within a 30 minute drive from where I live. I don't go to any of them these days and, with their price increase, won't be anytime soon.

Conversely, on the opposite side of the country, there are no GW stores. There are none near my house. I'm not even sure if there's one within a day's drive from where I live. I do have several independent stores, and it saddens me to think that GW's recent decisions may negatively impact them.

I didn't sign this garbage.

I did the only thing that matters.

After two decades of lining GW's greedy wallets I have stopped buying GW products and have started to play war games from other companies.

Do what matters. Do what counts.

- edit -

Oh, I know this is going to sound hypocritical, but I have taken part in online petitions that DID work and even got laws changed. I just don't really care about GW anymore to give them another chance. The've been treating their hobbyists like garbage ever since they went public. These last few weeks was just the last straw for me.

petitions NEVER work online.

The only way to let them understand something is hitting them in the wallet. Stop buying their products, buy from someone else that makes better figures.

I'm in rage, but this has no point anyway. They decide the policy... until they have a company of course.
