It seemed like the tau player suffered because of his lack of markerlights, without cover for your units, I have a feeling the game would have turned out be closer.

But with that comment I would like to thank you for taking the time to make these awesome battle reports, and I hope you'll make more if you get the chance.

Good point.

It's also interesting to note how terrain and cover effects games so much. Game 4 had the best terrain and most cover of all my games. My tau opponent also had disruption pods on all tanks and his piranhas were going flat-out every turn. At the end of 5 turns, we both had 2/3 of our armies left as a result. Compare that to game #2 where I faced shooty footdar on a table with far less terrain and I was nearly tabled.

One of the biggest suggestions for imrpovement at ATC was better terrain. Terrain has become such a factor in making or breaking tournament armies, I also wrote an article about it on my blog. Shannon probably didn't need marker lights in most of his ATC games, but on a table with good terrain and against large units like mine, they would have multiplied his casualties inflicted.

In game 5:

I know that they had hurricane on them, but I think it would've been better to throw caution to the wind and just charge them in, as it turned out they got wiped (?) in shooting the next turn.

Aside from that, sorry about the bad matchup, which just got worse after he stole the initiative. Hope you had better luck in the final game

Yup, I definately mis-played the genestealers. I lost the mental game when I got a pairing I specifically wanted to avoid and then lost first turn.

Posting tournament losses as batreps is never fun but goes to show there are many factors at play beyond a good list. Hopefully other can learn from my mistakes also which would end up proving the most valuable to the community.

Congrats on a job well done with Nids. It is also nice to see the high quality of players at this event and with virtually no problems with any of the players.

Comparing tournament records is another form of e-peen measuring.
