On the contrary; out of any game that actually has combat in it (read: most of them), Assassin's Creed has the easiest real-time combat I can think of by a long shot. It's great for casual players who tend to avoid action-oriented games.

Well, Assassin's Creed 2 and Brotherhood have extremely easy combat, but Assassin's Creed 1 has combat which is actually fairly frustrating at times; especially before you relearn counter.

But yes, LA Noire is a good choice. Minimal combat, and most of that is the result of making bad choices during investigations.

A pretty good one, in fact. Based on Lovecrafts The Outsider, if memory serves.
Indeed. Both Penumbra and Amnesia-- both made by the same company I should note-- have excellent stories.

Frictional games does one thing and one thing well-- tell excellent scary stories where you are not a badass, but a scared mofo trying desperately not to get slaughtered by the monsters around you.

I prefer shooting stuff, it can be scary but I want to kill stuff too.

There was a story in Nightmares and Dreamscapes where there was some Lovecraftian terror abducting people who went down a certain street in England.

Bioshock wsa good, but I dunno if it was THAT good for story.

But what it did well was immerse you in the atmosphere and culture of Rapture.

For games, an interactive medium, this is a wild success.

The people in the past who convinced themselves to do unspeakable things were no less human than you or I. They made their decisions; the only thing that prevents history from repeating itself is making different ones.

I would agree with Melissia, Bioshock is good and its a nice bit of setting but I'm not too sure about the story. Most of the bonus pieces of info you can pick up give anecdotal history of what was happening in Rapture, but not much towards the current story.

Still, it should be about $20 so its a good deal.

Ok heres the deal get a ps2 and spend a little extre cash and pick up some of the suikoden series. If you have a ps3 you can get the first suikoden for like 10 dollars.

Beyond Good and Evil is pretty cool and puzzle/story based with some combat.

Enslaved is similar, though more combat orientated than BG&E.

The old Res Evils had decent plots/stories too, however they are probably a little dated.

Mario Galaxy is pretty fun.

Paper Mario might interest her if she likes Mario Galaxy. Not quite as colourful and slightly more serious and gritty, but some great puzzles and game features.

Oh its definitely fun, I've played through both of them.

She is a big puzzle fan, and Galaxy is basically a big platforming puzzle, so it seems like she digs it. Certainly isn't playing it for the story, lol.

While I'm neutral about Lovecraft, I personally don't recommend either of them, I found the story pretty boring and to be honest, I thought the games were ridiculously bland and far from scary. It may help to keep in mind that I am a horror writer, but still.

I'm going to have to recommend both Red Dead Redemption and L.A. Noire, especially the latter for storytelling, but Red Dead's story and characters are phenomenal.

Kingdom Death Fanatic. Dark Eldar: Kabal of the Fragile Breath. Dark Elves: Allegiance to the Black Crown. Also, Masons, Cygnar, and Legion of Everblight. All unnamed.

Holy gak that is an awesome username. Please tell me your army is called Kabal of the Fragile Breath. Morathi's Darkest Sin has some competition here for best handle, I think.

Yea it seems cool so far, I'm usually on hand to beat some of the more 'difficult' parts, if you can call it that. She hasn't had enough experience with these kinds of games apparently, too much WoW.

My wife is pretty good at computer games (except FPS games) but she sometimes asks me to do bits for her (there were a few missions on GTA that I had to do ).
