One of my friends did recently though he had a lot more things floating around in random places I can't remember what they were though.

Don't poke the sleeping squiggoth, he might get cranky.

Hey, does any one have any experience about Dwarf special characters for those really big games? They look good on paper but they seem to depend on their armor save an awful lot, and are slow. So how do these characters play on the table top? Please tell me.

@ Murray: Without looking at the book right now, I imagine you have to be over in your Lords allowance. Based on my memory, you're sporting somewhere in the range of 1,000-1,100 points worth of Lords. At 3K, you're only permitted 750.

“It was in lands of the Chi-An where she finally ran him to ground. There she kissed him deeply as he lay dying, and so stole from him his last, agonized breath.

On a delicate chain at her throat, she keeps it with her to this day.”

Murray was 7th the last time you played? Those units are incredibly small for 8th.

Thus, After having thus successively taken each member of the community in its powerful grasp and fashioned him at will, the supreme power then extends its arm over the whole community. It covers the surface of society with a network of small complicated rules, minute and uniform, through which the most original minds and the most energetic characters cannot penetrate, to rise above the crowd. The will of man is not shattered, but softened, bent, and guided; men are seldom forced by it to act, but they are constantly restrained from acting. Such a power does not destroy, but it prevents existence; it does not tyrannize, but it compresses, enervates, extinguishes, and stupefies a people, till each nation is reduced to nothing better than a flock of timid and industrious animals, of which the government is the shepherd

How much is it possible to build a Dwarf army that concentrates on wrecking the magic phase?? How many dispell dice can one gain, and does this reduce or improve the army's overall effectiveness??

Its meh at 3000 points you can have a runelord with master rune of balance and another rune lord with the anvil, and 4 runesmiths plain and dry. That will give you 10 dispell dice and the max you can have is 12, so that leaves you with another 2 that you can put in and you always will have 12 until they start to die. I dont recommend it because dwarves get pricey, especially warmachines with all the runes you can put on them and the units you will want to take. Shutting the magic phase is nice for dwarves because there are a lot of spells that can hurt but with all the irrestable force out there your looking at a possibility to waste points trying to get free dispell dice. Such as Super-Slann with life, great opportunity to get dwellers off irresistibly and not have to worry about the miscast, thus making your 12 dispell dice look like rubish. There is also the chance where you dont roll high enough to dispell and thats disappointing .This is the most common anti magic build for dwarves that I have seen:

Runelord
Master Rune of Balance
Spell Breaker
Spell Eater

Runesmith
2x Spellbreaker

4 dispell scrolls, one that can destroy a spell on a 4+. Dispell scrolls are better than having more dispell dice, this build still generates 4 dice and you have a 50% chance of getting anywhere from 4-6 more dispell dice.

No matter, how does Thorgrim grudge bearer work on the field?

Well he has a boat load of attacks with his Thronebearers and Thorgrim himself is great for fighting armies with multiple wound-high toughness targets like Ogres. He and his little entourage can take care of pretty much any situations (being a swarm or a small force with alot of wounds). I always put him in the squad of Warriors because everyone likes shooting at him. I felt that putting him with the Long Beards would make that unit to much of a deathstar/priority unit and it also gave the squad of Warriors some punch.

Putting points and army set up aside, would it still work if I put him in a unit with Bugmans rangers to create a unit that will last much longer?

I'm new to dwarfs too and fantasy 8th ed at that, are anvils worth their points? i mean, its an extra dispel dice and some nice runes, but they seem like they'd be pretty vulnerable. to both enemy mischief and getting blown up from failing to strike ancestor runes (not too worried about failing normal runes, i mean its 2+...but i guess thats what you say as you roll a 1, but anyway yeah not too worried about that).

I wish I had time for all the game systems I own, let alone want to own...

I'm not the expert as this thread suggests but I wouldn't go with one because they are immobile so the first giant that gets through the wall of dwarves means your in trouble, cause the warriors certainly aren't going to get to it, but this will be fine if thats what you were using the anvil on it.
