I am new to the Dwarves and interested in seeing what other people are using in successful Dwarf armies. If you have an army that works well or an idea you think will work please upload it here. Please also explain runes you have used and why this particular model is useful, also add where you would normally put it on the field. Thanks!

Let me ask you a few questions.

1 What dwarf models do you like?

2 Are you wanting a mix of shooting and cc or jsut a gunline or a cc dwarf army?

3 Cannons and those stone throws are awesome

4 Those stone throwers with the rune that makes the attacks flaming is great and super effective.

5 Dwarf hand gunner guys are nasty str 4 and armor piercing nasty nasty plus the bonus to hit

Thats all I know from playing against them.

I was thinking a combination of close combat and gun lines. I like models that are not over complicated to build. A good example of this would be Thunderers, however I enjoy making conversions like making Quarrelers to rangers.

Hammerers are good i think...? (some sort of dwarf cc unit gave me quite the run for my money lost alot of my men to them :( something like 12 warriors died on me until I finally broke those guys) anyways they maybe slow but they hit hard and it hurts.

GW on most dwarves is a given because initiative 1 and 2 are just too slow you will strike last anyways so why not hit even harder.

I also have heard that Ironbreakers are pretty effective for taking out things that are elite and can last long in combat. Have you fought these at all? BTW what army do you play exactly?

Well Ironbreakers have given me enough grief to last a life time, I think ypu would do well with that you have planned. A mixed CC and ranged army would definitly be nasty to face, I can see myself strugeling to beat it. What level of points where you thinking of? Also cannons or at least Grudge trowers are a must for dwarfs

Runesmith - Greatweapon, Gromril armour, Rune of spellbreaking, Rune of stone, Rune of the furnace

Thane - Handweapon, Gromril armour, BSB, Rune of resistance, Rune of stone, Rune of the furnace

28 Dwarf warriors - Handweapon, Shield, Heavy armour, Musician, Standard bearer ( Smith and Thane go here )
267 Points

30 Longbeards - Greatweapon, Heavy armour, Musician, Standard bearer
405 Points

10 Thunderers - Musician, Standard bearer
155 Points

Cannon - Engineer - Rune of reloading, Rune of burning
120 points

Bolt thrower - Engineer, Rune of burning
60 Points

Grudge thrower - Rune of penetrating, Rune of burning, Rune of accuracy
135 Points

Organ gun

This is my regular army I fight with. At WS 5 the greatweapon longbeards tend to tear apart what they get into combat with. With the handweapon/shield warriors providing a nice bunker for the characters. The artillery help thin everything down for the infantry advance. Definitely leaning towards Ironbreakers actually now for future expansion. Mainly because as much as I love slayers I prefer Ironbreaker models more. Once I get to higher points battles I'll likely add in a second organ gun and more infantry. Probably some quarrelers.

Rune of Accuracy on a grudgethrower. Never leave home without it!

Hope it gives you some food for thought.

I geting a lot of pro-Grudge Thrower vibes. These will work well on High Elves, right?

They work well on anything. Especially large units though. And with rune of accuracy they stand a great chance of hitting what you want.

You have success with that list Lexx? I think no forging on the cannon is a real loss. 10 Thunderers are kind of light I think Organ Guns fill that role cheaper maybe a 2nd one. And while longbeards are good in their fluff and I know you have to keep in mine a minimum core of 375 at this point level but Hammerers have the same stat line for 1pt cheaper.

I run my thane with the MR of Gromil, Rune of resistance, and Rune of Might with the BSB. this guy killed a Chaos Lord on a Jugger with a 4+ ward save . 1+ re-rollable with double strength vs toughness 5 hurts those big monsters and nasty characters.

I also use a Dwarf Lord on shield bearers with MR of spite, Rune of Stone, Rune of resistance, and Rune of might, Rune of Fire; he gets a 1+ re-rollable with a 4+ ward save and double Str. vs toughness 5 flaming attacks. There a few points left over for different runes to put on him. I use this guy on 3000+ games because he is more expensive than the thane.

Hammerers are my favorite unit they have tipped the battle into my favor in many of my games.

Grudge thrower with 2x runes of penetration and rune of accuracy is my favorite warmachine. This beast was built to kill Warriors of Chaos blocks and deal with knights. But it also eats skaven alive!

2 cannons are better than 1!

My army list runs like this. I play Warriors of Chaos and Skaven as my main opponents and this list does pretty decent against them.

Runelord=279
Great weapon, Shield, Rune of Stone, MR of Balance, Rune of Spelleating, Rune of Spellbreaking

Thane=175
Armed as above with handgun

30 Warriors= 325(Rune lord goes here)
Great weapons, Full command

30 Warriors= 325
Great weapons, Full command

10 Thunderers=145
Musician

10 Thunderers=145.
Musicain

30 Hammerers=440(thane goes here)
Full command, MR of Grungi

Cannon=130
Rune of Forging, Rune of Burning

Grudge Thrower=155
2x Rune of Penetration, Rune of Accuracy

Organ Gun=120

Organ Gun=120

Gyrocopter=140

Total=2499

for 3000 add

Dwarf Lord=275(goes into the Hammerers)
Armed as above

10 Thunderers=145
Musician

Runesmith=79(goes into the other warrior squad)
Rune of Stone, Great weapon

Total=2998

This army hits like a rock with lots of shooting and good combat it hurts. I wither down my opponent with my shooting and then clean up with great weapons. You can horde formation the warriors and hammerers to get more attacks or keep them ranked up. Organ Gun is nice but it doesnt get the +1 to hit like the handguns do, thats why I add another unit of 10 at 3000. Hope it helps!

Organ guns auto hit. At least that's how I read it.

LoL can't wait until your next game. "By the way my Organ Guns auto hit, I've been playing them wrong, kiss your Chaos Knights goodbye" I actually wiped my buddies Chaos Knights in one volley from the OG in my last game.

You can use the points to add more to your combat blocks, that way you can horde them and still have 30 hitting back. And/Or pick up a 2nd GT =)

Sorry, but being the grammar/ spelling geek I am, I don't believe that dwarves can take juveniles (minors). I'm pretty sure they're called miners

miners are awesome because they can pop up unexpectedly. If your not playing friendly you can always spam cannons and organ guns along with stone throwers.

I like to take 2x 10 man units of thunderers but I just like the models and the awesome guns they have XD

One cool thing about dwarfs is that you can make they're characters dead-killey with the runes. I'll have to dust off my book to give you a few examples of what I like to run.

I was intending to use the miners to wipe out his High Elf mages in the back, always casting lore of life. This will get exiting when a unit of dwarves with great weapons attacks from the rear.

Just make sure you don't rely too much on miners to get the job done. they may come very late in the game, or not at all.

I do have success with it. But it isn't a complete steamroller of a list. But I wanted to use a variety of models I've painted in the army rather than min/max but still be able to do stuff on the table. Generally the artillery soften up or neutralize big threats enough for the infantry to do their job fine. The thunderers usually advance and stay near the organ gun. The 2 units working together can compliment each other quite nicely. Plus I just like the skull pass thunderers so take every opportunity to show them off.

I did recently. You need rangers, bugman and miners, anvil helps so you can get some charges off. There are a variety ways of doing it, an expendable thane with RoBrotherhood and RoChallenge can force a charge or cause panic if you line it up right you can make a big unit wheel and charge across their lines holding them up. A few war machines are nice too spread out. I did have a lot of fun with it, was cool to get into combat on turn 1-2 and the game wrapped up fairly quick. Was against a WoC army too so it felt extra good.
