I would take a good hard look at Menoth; Harbinger, pSeverius, and pKreoss can all run respectable, low model count jack lists.

Kreoss, the caster you get in the starter box, is more of a 'trick' list; his feat knocks models down, which makes them more easily shot, and then two Reckoners (heavy shooting jacks) walk up and dump four shots into the enemy warcaster, which is nearly always enough to kill it. This is his 'trick', consistently assassinating the enemy warcaster from range. He's a powerful denial caster in his own right, however, with spells that limit your opponent's spellcasting.

Harbinger can run 3 jacks quite easily by dint of a massive focus pool; the largest in the game hands down (focus is the resource from which warcasters power jacks and cast spells). She's a great all-round caster, which is why I originally cast her. No matter what list you take you will ultimately need infantry of some sort, commonly the Errants or Horgenhold Forge Guard. Harby's support spells benefit both.

Amon Ad-Raza is the faction's true 'warjack caster', but his battlegroup is based around 5+ 4 point Dervish warjacks, which doesn't end up being cheap.

See my only problem is that a good friend of mine who wants to get into the game with me really wants to play Menoth. That's the only reason I haven't and won't be choosing them.

What are my other options with the Reds? Their infantry do look pretty cool. Which brings me to another question.

What do the Mercenaries bring to the table? Can they mesh well with Khador? Can they make them more Jack oriented?

I'm going to go ahead and try to pick up Prime MKII this weekend to have a closer examination of my options.

Also, what's with this throw ability I keep hearing about? If a Jack can throw another Jack.....that sounds like so much fun!

Jack's can throw their basesize or smaller (so a medium base can't throw a large base) for two focus I believe? (Sorry still new myself with some of the rules)

Merc's can be used to spice up any faction, but not all Merc's work for all factions so don't fall in love with a model till you know they will work for you.

Khador can do Infantry very well, Irusk is a good caster for that. Winterguard Deathstar (slang for maxed out unit with the attachment and weapon extras) are a powerful force to have on the field, and eButcher with Doom Reaver's is just silly good.

Usually merc are used more to provide utility solos, which have abilities that the faction you are playing doesn't have available. Examples of these are Gorman (smoke clouds and debuff armor), Eiryss (remove focus/ upkeeps) and Piper (grants tough and pathfinder). There are also some great units which are better than what is available to certain factions like Nyss Hunters and Boomhaulers. I haven't heard people using merc jack marshall to bring more jacks to the table, as jack marshalling is a bit risky especially with a solo.

I play Cygnar and usually my lists include at least one merc solo, I am not too familiar with Khador relationship with mercs.

Jacks have special attacks called power attacks availalble. If jack has at least one fist, which is not holding weapon, it can do weapon locks on other jacks and/ or throw other models around the battlefield. Read the power attacks part of the MK2 rulebook once you get it.

Take a look at Legion of Everblight from the Hordes lineup. Hordes is just like Warmachine (although there is a different rulebook specific to Hordes), the two systems are 100% compatible and play in the same tournaments.

Legion is the Hordes Warbeast-heavy faction. Thematically, it's blighted elves and the soulless, eyeless dragonspawn that runs around with them.

Much like Menoth, Legion will give you low model count, viable lists, relatively cheap to build and maintain.

Absylonia, Saeryn or eThagrosh plus 2-3 heavy warbeasts each is approximately 25 pts by itself. Pick up a couple of support models (Shepherd, Forsaken, Spell Martyr) and a screen or flanking unit (Strider Deathstalkers, Raptors, Legionnaires, Minion Gatormen) and you're basically good to go.

Legion playstyle is also dynamically different from Menoth; your games will devolve into chess mastery as your unstoppable force smashes into his immovable object-- blighted bestial dragonspawn versus sanctified bulwarks of faith.

Question, how can I bring mercenary warjacks? DO I need some kind of Mercenary caster or something?

In general, yes.

The only way to get a lot of mercenary warjacks is to play a mercenary warcaster.

Yeah, I can certainly see where my advice might be construed as "go all out inexpensive Khador jack models". Did not mean that. However, when you factor in that our jacks are cheap, it still ends up being pretty inexpensive when you recognize that our infantry are also expensive points-wise and yet still comparable to everyone else's in the wallet. I think, point for point, Khador is probably the cheapest army to run because we do not depend on support units like the choir.

You may want to give another look to Cryx. While they tend to favor infantry, one of the casters (Mortenbra) can go VERY jack heavy. I have one 35 pt list that sports 6-7 heavy jacks (definately not cheap $$ wise though). Just my $0.02.

BTW Cryx tend to be the glass cannons.

I wholeheartedly agree with your choice of faction (flag-flying again!), but I don't think Ad-Raza is a good starting caster. Protectorate is kind of steeper in curve than some other factions, and Ad-Raza is probably the steepest caster of all. (Except for maybe Reznik). He is a beast, but you really need to get the sequencing and timing of your attacks down to make him shine. Pick someone a little simpler, like Kreoss or Feora, to start with.
(This is in case your friend who is starting menoth wants to read this thread.)
