It seriously doesn't matter, they were designed for 8th. You're really overthinking this. If you like the armies look and feel, then you're good to go.

O&G magic is great. Use Lvl 4 Orcs to try to throw Mangler Squigs behind your enemy lines (or off to the flank is better) and watch them wreak havoc. Or see what the lvl 6 gobbo spell does. Also, if you need to make Mangler Squigs (at 65pts, don't leave home without em) since they don't make the model yet, a 6th edition Dark Elf Cold One that has its front widened should do the trick-they work amazingly for the model. I have 3 built already. Just put the rear area in at a diagonal slant, fill in the gaps with greenstuff and build a mouth. Done. Easy, and it looks good. I also suggest investing in pump wagons and squig herds.

Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.

Well, looks like Orcs will fit my style a bit better.

Anyone know a good place to read up on tactics and unit reviews?

How do you O&G find having the limited trees?

I checked out Lizzies, but their models kind of Bore me.

Check the WHFB tactics section here. There's some solid gold reviews and discussion threads from when the book first came out if you check the history. Also pour over the lists section for different style armies.

He tends to generalize but you can check Mr.Malorian on youtube. He plays OnG and posts quite a number of videos of batreps and his take on OnG units and tactics.

In that case i urge you to not play LM, liking the models of your arny is important as you'll need to assemble and paint quite a few.

This right here. So important. You're going to be painting a lot of these models, make sure you like the army you chose. I'd rank it higher than going for something 'competitive'. You can make a competitive list out of any book if you really wanted to, but you can't force yourself to enjoy painting models you don't like.

As several people are ignoring brettonia I will give a brief summary.

They are close to what you described, you usually have a block or two of men at arms followed by several knight units of different types. That is all close combat and is what will win you the game. Trebuchets and bowmen are ranged support to help whittle down numbers so you can break stead fast and a damsel or prophetess for usually support magic. Bretts dont do the whole uber magic phase like lots of armies. If you have already decided on OnG thats fine I thought you should just know all of the armies as bretts are commonly rejected. They can make some competitive lists but you cant mess up and there is a learning curve to do it well. Tactics matter with this army.
