Rescued wild animals can make great pets, but its a lottery. I have bonded with a mouse, who is trusting and calm and happy in my hands. Other mice i rescued from cats have always tried to avoid me. My wild mouse will sit on the palm of my hand, all others I have handled would leap from them at the earliest opportunity.
Wild otters, badgers, foxes, squirrels etc can all make good pets, as individuals. But you cannot generate the bond, you can only increase the chance it will occur, with a wild animal either the bond will happen or it wont. My pet mouse is an accidental bonding, and she is unlike any other mouse I have handled.
Could I bond with a fox, yes I believe I could. Could i bond with foxes in general or with any rescued fox, certainly not. Wild animals becoming tame are as old as Androcles and the lion, and older, but each tale is an exception, not the rule and largely down to luck.

Turn members of a species into a pet and sell it to people with more money than sense and the animal species has a good chance of surviving.
Yeah, it's also a great way to ensure that thousands of animals will end up being abused, neglected, and mistreated. And keeping wild animals like big cats as pets is not only unfair to the animal, it is just asking for injury/death. When mittens the tabby cat takes a swipe at you because she's being grumpy, you might end up with a little scrape. Replace mittens with a lion and that little scrape is more like a massive gash/missing limb.
