There are a few kids around here who make decent money painting models. If you have a nearby hobby store, you could always ask if there's anyone who needs a painting service. This of course assumes you can paint to a standard people are willing to pay for.

Charge the correct amounts.
I pay my niece $30 to mow my lawn and $40 when I have her do the weed-eating. That's cheaper than I could pay many people to do it.
Ten bucks for that and you're ripping yourself off. You should be easily paid double that amount.

Recycle aluminum. Your family drink soda? Bam! Built in revenue. You'd be shocked how easy it is to walk around with a trash bag, collecting aluminum. Especially going through local parks. Just remember to wear gloves.

Make funny videos with your buddies and put them on youtube. Sell advertising on them. One viral hit could make you a bucketload.
IIRC, I read somewhere that youtube has a system for this built in.

One suggestion, and a potential earner....

Proper gardening. Why not look up your equivalent of the Yellow Pages, and find out the going rate for lawn mowing, planting etc? With access to the Internets, you should be able to learnhow to do even the more technical stuff quite easily. THEN UNDERCUT THE PROS!

Friend of mine is a professional gardener, and something he's now looking at on my suggestion is offering veg garden service. Dunno about the US, but there's a home-grown movement here in the UK, and it's easy enough money, as long as you've researched seasons etc.

Your first thing to do is to figure out what you CAN do.

Your a high schooler, so you have student stuff, such as tutoring. You have a subject your ace at? Try tutoring some of your peers for some cash.

You can do the "Lawn maintainer" routine, You have a lawn mower? A shovel, and a couple of rakes, brooms and trash bags? Add in cleaning and car washing... It's going to suck, but that might catch you some cabbage. THEN you get a partner and do some odd jobs for the old folks. Paint the fences, fix the gutters, clean out the garages, and stuff around the house sort of thing.
It's called adding in to the basic "Lawn mower" thing.

You already have Baby sitter under your belt, so .... put an add in the paper/ local grocery store. Watch yourself on that one though. You need to get yourself a couple of classes in first aid, cpr, basic child care stuff, so you can cover your bases. ( local red cross canhelp you out in there as well.)

Wash cars.

Someone mentioned the internets, try selling stuff on feebay? get in some of those link adverts where you get some snacks for clicking on the web ads.

As in I not"Knowing " you, I can't give you a solid job opportunity, but the Minis are available on the swap and trade area on the Forum here, then you can get some second and third hand over on feebay, by just bidding low for them.

The stuff is over priced, so you can use the opportunity to really scout out your deals. try with the addage- "I never pay retail." and find the best deal you can, where ever you find it.

I get guys from FRP, you can get them from there, that gallaxy site, the people that are getting out of the game... , you can get them sub priced from your local game shop, and in your local gameing circles. You can see if your buddies want to swap and trade for.. other things that you get on the feebay, swap and trade sites, while along the way, you stock up on your bits box, and buy sell and trade them as well.

You come across some Space marines, or some bits, you trade them for what you want, or scrap a batch together and sell the lot yourself on the trade site, feebay, or your local game shop.

Become cutthroat if you have to, because greed is good.

You have a small batch of tyranids, you can trade them in for your Dark Eldar. You get a couple of batches of bits, you can trade them for a character.

Extra sprues? Sell them, as well.

How much? hey, how much do you think they can go for? A full sprue for maybe five bucks, ten bucks. a batch of sprues for maybe 20-40 bucks.
You can probibly scratch up some metal minis, either repaint them, or stripp them and sell them specific for what you want. 5 bucks to 50 bucks, depending on what your going to go for.

Fee bay is a good place to gauge your sales, trade specifics.
"I've got a squad of termies, I'll swap you a squad of ....." " I've got a squad of tactical marines, I'll trade you a ......"

Its cold and cruel, but you want green, so you sell them like the pros do. Buy them cheap, sell them high.

I'm not advicating getting crazy with it, or you'll end up with just loads of crap, but if you have a goal, you work to the goal, that should get you at least started on the road to saving up some cabbage and holding for the right time.

Summer time = pools. Fall = raking leaves. Winter = shovling snow. Spring = lawn maintenance, adding in grass seed, sod, flower.

Got a summer camp? Be a camp counseler.

Exploit the opportunities, and exploit yout talents, and ask for as much as you can get away with.

100 bucks a month, and I'll keep your lawn mowed. ( 20 bucks a mow once a week for 4 times a month= 100 bucks.)
You want to do that tutoring? 200 bucks and I'll tutor you for 2 weeks. (I'm good at ---- I get an A or B in the subject, I can help you to.)
Sell your talent, market yourself.

Cultivate your interests and continue to learn more to add to your rucksack.

You know anything about roofing?
You know anything about carpenter work?
You know anything about small engines?
You know anything about horses?
You know anything about .....

Basicly you figure your talent, and push it and get paid.

I have to put in another vouch for trading/buying online or whatever. Friends/hobbiysts of mine have tons of old stuff they don't want, or perhaps you have something they might be interested in. Haggling is great for when you need that extra $10 or so.

Painting service is also a good idea, but you'll have to seriously commit (and, of course, have a decent standard of painting which you can replicate over 20+ models).

Another idea is to make terrain and sell it. People need good terrain, and if you can produce cheap, good looking terrain (Not too hard really) and sell it at a decent price, you might have something going.

Or, and this is probably the dumbest bit that will be in here, but just kinda save. Yeah, it sucks. Especially for those large 50+$$ models, but sometimes, what's necessary is necessary. See if you can cut down on your expenses. I literally never ate lunch for a week, saved some decent $$ (Eat a large breakfast/dinner, and don't try this if you're in a sport.) Selling excess stuff is good too. My brother sells his old textbooks for like, $70, though his example is slightly different.

As stated earlier tutoring is also great. I'm in the process of starting up a small tutoring thing for like $15 an hour, though I tutor history and literature (meh, not super lucrative, especially lit). But if you find yourself with off hours and a really great understanding of a subject, it's a good idea.

Is there a movie theatre nearby? In PA, we also have laws saying you need to be 16 to work, but I think there may be some wiggle room there. When I was in High School, I worked for a theatre, and the theatre was allowed to hire 14 and 15 year olds, but only for weekend mornings. Might be worth a shot.

There's also the "Under-the-table" possibility. Some small restaurants and similar places might be willing to hire you regardless of your age, or just not ask you to prove your age...

Not in high school? Why's that if I may ask?

Most states have working laws that say you have to be 16, but there is almost always a way around that. Either part time work/work through school (if you're 14 or 15) with parental consent for one, I worked at a youth development center when I was a kid chaperoning birthday parties/watching over the premises and such.

Other options, many of which have been stated:

Odd jobs
Lawn work
Snow (not likely in texas)

And one that usually gets looked over: under the table employment

Not every place wants to put you on the books, and I'm not talking drug running or other nonsense. I worked as a referee at a paintball field I played at, I made 40-50 dollars a day, 8-9 hour days mind you, for saturday and sundays. A lot of small business/local places like this will hire help and pay cash.

The other option is, if you're good at it, making a bit of money by painting/selling minituares. That being said, you do have to be honest with yourself: you have to be significantly better than table top.

Good luck to you, but don't be in too much of a rush to enter the working world, you'll have pleennnty of years to come.

That's why I said "risk", as opposed to "you will never accomplish anything significant in this country." A college degree barely means anything in the US anymore, what do you think a kid with not even a high school degree is going to encounter? Don't tell anyone that going through life without a HS degree will be anything but insanely difficult.

Another way to approach this is to attack the other side of the equation, namely the cost of the models.

Up until I had a steady income, I bought everything off ebay/btown and made sure it was sufficiently junky to keep it from going for much. I then got very good at stripping/cleaning, and ended up with nice models for cheap.

I built my entire Eldar army like that, heck, I got 4 falcon hulls once for 20 dollars shipped because they were in such atrocious condition they were being sold as "terrain". But, with a lot of elbow grease they were restored to their former glory.

You can work fast food at age 15.5 (at least in California) with a work permit. Is that the case in Texas? I know I had a job before age 16 and was slinging burgers and fries at my local Jack in the Box. That's how I made my 40k money at 16, although minis were much cheaper then. I blame Kirby and Wells for your troubles.

Another thing you may want to start doing is finding wholesale retaillers online, and save up your money. If you buy one or two things, the shipping cost kills any savings you earn, but if you have enough to buy scads of stuff, then the savings add up, and you can get more with the same money.

Keep your eyes peeled on miniwargaming.com's webstore. They can have pretty steep discounts on stuff you want (daily deals) and you get points through their website too. You just have to be positively sure you want to buy what you see, because who knows, the next week, the daily deal could be something you wanted twice as bad.

Very true, there's something valuable to be learned from every experience in life, and usually the really crappy ones teach you more then the good ones. I'd say you could ask anyone who's "made it" in their respective field what the most important values/attributes were for them, and you'd probably always get back: a good work ethic/hard work.

Plus, it's the truly crappy jobs that teach you the all important lesson of always wanting something better. As in "I'll be damned if I work at THIS place the rest of my life"
