Would YOU play against 'Chaos' Grey knights?
Yes. Everyone should be able to field any army using whatever fluff they want. Fan made or official.
I have no opinion either way. Makes no differance to me.
No. An army should only be played and converted according to established fluff.
I would play them, but would be unhappy about them altering established fluff.
Yes. I do not believe this concept breaks with established fluff.

I wouldn't have problem playing against them. the person has every right an army that doesn't follow the established fluff. Then again, I thought about doing a chaos GK army.

Problem is if a mod locks the thread it locks the poll too, and everything aside its nicer just being able to look at one thread scroll to the top and then vote.

As to the topic my opinion is thus; It is the persons overpriced plastic crack, if they want to paint them pink and say they are actually really ugly tyranids that kind of look and act like grey knights its their choice, I am more into the combat side of 40k than the 'well the reason the Ultramarines are fighting the Imperial Fists is......'

Question is what's most important.

If someone picks the GK minis and convert/paint them in dark schemes and make them look completely kick- on the table, would you not play it merely because it's not fluffiticly correct?

GW made the story, they give us (most) of the models, then we convert them and paint them as we want them, the fluff is for entertainment, it's not a religious script on how to live our lives, and I for one, do not believe that my minis have souls or minds that will be angered because they have a personal story which at some parts contradict the GW fluff.

Not that I'm personally going to make a Chaos GK army, but I have nothing against people that wants to do it.

Despite being a confessed fluff monkey, I admit 40k (and every other wargame) is mostly about the battles. The accompanying fluff is/should be flexible enough to allow every combination. After all, xenos, loyalists and chaos are not equally represented on every store/gaming club/casual group... And some lines in a codex shouldn't ban GK players from fielding their armies against other GK players, for example.

When in doubt, I'd stick to the allies table on the 40k manual. And if it allows Inquisitorial armies to fight alongside chaos if there's a good reason for it, I'd confidently say that a chaos-themed GK army is not against the fluff. It's merely representing one (very) rare possibility.

And if it's well painted, nicely converted and a blast to see on the tabletop, then it'd be an army I'd happily fight against.

If it were well-thought out and modified, sure, why not.
Although I have to admit the best alternate GK I've seen are the Pre-Heresy Thousand Sons in this thread: http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/0/366996.page#2966076

I'd play them, but I'd ignore pretty much everything fluff wise the player decided to spew about their army. It's just a GK army, even if the owner is a pinhead.

As far as im concerned the fluff nothing more than really cool stories in black library books and the little story parts of the BRB and the codex. The models them self are just game pieces with rules attached to them and the codex is a guide to give you ideas on how to paint them if you don't have any better ideas yourself or if you want your army to be your favorite chapter from whatever book. Once the game starts I care about the fluff behind your chaos purifier squad as much as I care about the fluff behind the white bishop on a chess board. I have no problem keeping fluff, hobby and actual gaming separate things in my mind.

I would still play it and probably enjoy the theme. GK's could be "chaos" since they go to extreme measures to keep "pure" ... and yeah i know fluffwise very few would know about a lot of those rituals but bah!

Honestly, not sure. Like most folks in here said, if it were a counts-as TS army or something akin to it, then by all means, sure. But the idea of taking regular Grey Knights and making them Chaos-ified would be a bit hard for me to accept. Call me a fluff Nazi if you like, but you'd be stretching it waaaaay too far to make it believable for my tastes, and even though it is about the game, I would not be interested in the game if it didn't have the fluff, so this would be very hard for me to swallow.

Ouze on GW: "I'd like to be like, hey baby, you're a freak but you just got too much crazy going on, and I don't hook up with bunny boilers. But then Necrons are going to come out, and I'm going to be like damn girl, and then next thing you know, it's angry sex time again.

It's complicated."

If they are using the Grey Knights models because they look cool and using the Chaos Marine codex, fine. But don't try and say that you have Grey Knights that fell to Chaos. It's ridiculous, sometimes people try and play the "counts as" card a little too much...

I agree with the above if its just the modles the fine. It its Chaos Grey Knights that is going too far.
