So, this is a big-budget (strike 1 against it being good) movie, based on a comic book (strike 2), that is the 5th movie in the series (strike 3) after two major piles of garbage (strikes 4 and 5), and is a prequel (strike 6) without any of the major stars returning (strike 7).

But, despite all that, you're saying this is still good? I'm not sure if this thread is sarcasm, serious, or an elaborate attempt to troll me...

Then don't see it. No one gives a .

Sorry, I guess my tone didn't come across properly. It was genuine shock. My initial impressions (seeing previews, but not hearing any reviews) were that this was going to be an absolutely terrible movie, and a sure winner of several Razzies. It just seemed too Hollywood squealitis to be any good.

But, if you're all saying they actually did a great job, I'm genuinely interested. Is it good Dark Knight non-comic fan good? Or is it X-men 2 good, where you need to be a fan to truly appreciate it?

Yes, it's good for people how aren't fans of the comic because it's an origin story.

You implode a sub undr water the pressure will kill everyone inside quite instantaneously. Remember Magneto didn't give a damn about anything else. He just wanted Dr. Mengele er Shaw dead.

Spoiler:
Shaw would have survived. He can survive being hit by a train, he can survive being punched by the hulk. He was absorbing enough energy to explode like a nuke which he would have survived. At that point they probably assumed he couldn't be killed physically while using his powers (rightly). They needed to shut him down mentally. The arc was also about Erik learning to control his powers and keep his cool under fire, he's a notoriously calm supervillain with personal connections to many of his foes.

It's the fifth best rated comic book movie ever made. Better then the first batman and blowing the other Xmen movies out of the water according to rotten tomatoes. You should probably endevour to look at reviews before saying something trollish and ignorant.

The problem Shuma is:
Spoiler:
Yes he can absorb power. But he has to breath. Lenscher does care if anything else dies. Shaw is going down.

Spoiler:
I don't agree. The entire last third of the movie was about Xavier giving him back his humanity and teaching him that theres more to life then letting your hatred and rage control you. Shaw can probably swim and I doubt he suffers much from decompression given his powers. There are plenty of ways he could survive the sub cracking since all he would of had to do was simply get air. The sub probably had breathers, life vests, all kinds of crap to get him to the surface. Erik wasn't a mad dog at the end like he was the first time they met, he was focused. He knew he was going to kill shaw, but he carried that coin with him for his entire life, he's not going to just hope that Shaw drowns or doesn't set himself off early.

Do you remember that time that thing happened?
This is a bad thread and you should all feel bad

For me it was good on many different levels, and one was all the big powers going off. They did all the battle scenes really well, and made really cool use of the powers, especially Magneto. The subtitle could have been Magneto on a Rampage instead of First Class. If I'm going to see a superhero movie, the powers have to look good or it won't work for me.

I also liked how they used some lesser-known characters to make up most of the students, as they had already used most of the original team in the first movies. Sure, some of the teams' acting was pretty cringtastic, but it kept the movie continuity nicely, while fleshing out the characters of Magneto and Xavier (the acting and casting here was fairly rocksolid imo).

This relationship forms the heart of the movie, as the morale codes of the two men clash even as they endeavor towards similiar goals. The theme of 'what is the proper response to threat' runs throughout the film, not only with the mutants but the humans as well, providing parallels with the real world and the tendency towards a security state or naked violence when faced with threat.

This was in addition to the classic 'mutants are different so they're not accepted' theme of the X-men, which was perhaps a little overacted by Mystique. I think they were tying for an intimate look at difference, and the affect of 'difference' on both those who are 'different' and 'the same' - which they achieved. Of course the real world-issues that are echoed here continue to haunt our world with violence, hatred, and tragedy every day, on every continent.

It was a great example of the Marvel way: hide real-world issues involving complex characters in a flash of superhero glory! It's hard to serve up that kind of dinner without a little corn and cheese, but it was kept to a minimum, leaving me very satisfied, and going back for more!

And by the way, Grakmar, when you roll into a thread with self-admitted uniformed comments involving arbitrary and arguable ratings scales and accuse the OP of being a troll just for even starting the thread, (i thought trolls just wreck threads, they don't start them do they?) with all due respect, aren't you being a troll? No response necessary, you already apologized, I'm just sayin...

Buzzard's Knob

I liked it, despite the obvious continuity issues.

Spoiler:
in X3, when Xavier and Magneto went to recruit Jean Grey, Xavier could still walk even though he was bald and much older, and also in X1, didn't Xavier tell Wolverine that he helped Magneto make that anti-telepath helmet? Also, my favorite part was the Wolverine cameo, everyone in the theater burst out laughing! It's a good thing they didn't recruit him then, because I bet at the end he would have joined the brotherhood, and so would never have gotten his adamantium skeleton and claws.

Warpcrafter- First class isn't in the same series of films as X1,2 and 3 is it? While it used scenes from them (and had wolverine in it) i though it was a seperate film.

Didn't Marvel say that the movies were all supposed to be part of a shared movie canon? It's about as consistent as the comic book canon, at least.

I didn't really care for this. The whole idea of teen mutants is cool..I was a huge fan of "The new Mutants" comic books. However this movie captured none of the depth of that series nor the original X-men series which it was supposed to do.

Pros: Magneto,Beast,Sebastian Shaw

Cons: Stripper mutant chick with fluttering wings?, FBI mutant sympathizer guy, The red devil ninja dood, young xavier, came off as gay.

The story was way to shallow for my taste.

I give it a D
