If it wasn't for Heath as the Joker I'd say this was the best comic-book movie ever. Definitely as far as super-powered battles goes, I can't think of any that top it. Magneto on a rampage - BOOYA!

I like how they managed to keep to the continuity established by the movies, while at the same time staying true to the spirit of the comics, as far as the Xavier/Magneto relationship goes.

I liked that they got Austin Powers to play Prof X.

YEAH BABY!

The rest of the film was okay as well.

I quite enjoyed it. I'm not sure I'd say it was the best comic-book movie ever, but it was a pretty solid one. Good cast, cool fights, pretty good story, good lookin girls, and updating 6 Degrees of Kevin Bacon for a new generation. What more could you want?

Spoiler:

When they identify Bacon in the sub, instead of trying to beach it, why didn't Magneto just split the sub down the middle? Bam! Everyone is dead and that fast, and that was Lencher's stated purpose. Especially good for people who seem invulnerable to attack. Don't mean gak when you can't breath...

I guess it's easier to lift a sub than tear it in two. Until you've used magnetic superpowers to tear a sub in half you won't understand.

I don't read comics, either, mind you. I just talk to a lot of nerds who do, and end up picking up on that sort of stuff.

“We may observe that the government in a civilized country is much more expensive than in a barbarous one; and when we say that one government is more expensive than another, it is the same as if we said that that one country is farther advanced in improvement than another. To say that the government is expensive and the people not oppressed is to say that the people are rich.”

Dialogue and acting from the students made me cringe, especially Mystique.

Could have the cut whole "first class" part out of the movie and it wouldn't have been nearly as bad.

Wait... wait...

So, this is a big-budget (strike 1 against it being good) movie, based on a comic book (strike 2), that is the 5th movie in the series (strike 3) after two major piles of garbage (strikes 4 and 5), and is a prequel (strike 6) without any of the major stars returning (strike 7).

But, despite all that, you're saying this is still good? I'm not sure if this thread is sarcasm, serious, or an elaborate attempt to troll me...

All a matter of taste and what you like

I don't see how having a big bugdget makes something bad in the same way as low budget makes something good

Some (ie me) have enjoyed every X movie thus far - unlike any DC ones I can think of recently - esp the overated, overlong, plotless and frankly boring new Batman films - but of course only in my opinion......and as worthwhile or worthless as any one elses especially the "official" film critics.

On the subject of his "trolling" Surely he is saying its good because he thinks it is........

Sorry, I guess my tone didn't come across properly. It was genuine shock. My initial impressions (seeing previews, but not hearing any reviews) were that this was going to be an absolutely terrible movie, and a sure winner of several Razzies. It just seemed too Hollywood squealitis to be any good.

But, if you're all saying they actually did a great job, I'm genuinely interested. Is it good Dark Knight non-comic fan good? Or is it X-men 2 good, where you need to be a fan to truly appreciate it?

I wouldn't say a great job, but it was a fun film. Couple of dumb moments, but generally enjoyable. Even non-comic-book-fan friends of mine enjoyed it. It's not going to change superhero cinema as we know it, but it's worth a watch if you like that kind of thing.

Shaw would have survived. He can survive being hit by a train, he can survive being punched by the hulk. He was absorbing enough energy to explode like a nuke which he would have survived. At that point they probably assumed he couldn't be killed physically while using his powers (rightly). They needed to shut him down mentally. The arc was also about Erik learning to control his powers and keep his cool under fire, he's a notoriously calm supervillain with personal connections to many of his foes.

It's the fifth best rated comic book movie ever made. Better then the first batman and blowing the other Xmen movies out of the water according to rotten tomatoes. You should probably endevour to look at reviews before saying something trollish and ignorant.

Yes he can absorb power. But he has to breath. Lenscher does care if anything else dies. Shaw is going down.
