Here is something interesting psychologically speaking.

While GW price will not go down on some items,
they'll raise the prices of the other items.

Now not some few items are expensive , they are ALL EQUAL!

( its like GW vehicles, the large rivets looks incredibly silly, but GW puts even MORE together, they call it a style )

yayy~

Of course, now you have to buy them in packs of 3, and deal with all the problems that Finecost provides... but that's something, isn't it?!

I wish they did this with more models. Like the Tyranid Elites. Release clampacks of individual models, and boxes of 3 of them for ~2.5 times the price of the individuals. Like, going by local price brackets, Zoanthropes are $41au. Put a box of 3 out for $96au. I'd buy those in an instant, rather than occasionally buying one individual model every now and then.

Well... GW does put up discounts... just... no directly.. by encouraging a second-hand market. I bought six red terrors for about 25-30$ each...

Technically, Bloodcrushers also got cheaper when they converted to plastic. 1 was $30, iirc, and now you get 3 for $54 (17.60 each, a little more then half price). So it's rare but it happens.

Price decrease wouldn't be required if GW had any idea what currency rates are. Charge everyone in the world same amount as they do from UK or US customers and everyone would be happy.

Here's an example of current prices of BA battleforce:
United Kingdom 65 GBP = 73,28 EUR = 105,58 USD = 102,58 CAD = 99,54 AUD
Europe 70,96 GBP = 80 EUR = 115,26 USD = 111,99 CAD = 108,66 AUD
USA 61,57 GBP = 69,41 EUR = 100 USD = 97,17 CAD = 94,28 AUD
Canada 76,03 GBP = 85,72 EUR = 123,50 USD = 120 CAD = 116,43 AUD
Australia 111,02 GBP = 125,16 EUR = 180,31 USD = 175,21 CAD = 170 AUD

of course if they did.. they would make everyone pay as much as aussies do...

The thing is as far as Gw are concerned they do charge everyone roughly the same since they are clearly tracking incomes in the respective currencies as is common with all business.

To introduce prices that track currency trends would be very hard (impossible?) to manage. How do you implement these fluctuations over not only GW stores but also all games stores?

It would also require fluctuating prices. So you would go in to FLG in January and pay £20 for something by March it my have dropped to £19 but by Christmas it is at £22. Customers would be happy in the March but furious by the winter. The effect on turnover would be disasterous for any company as bouyant sales in March disolved to nothing as customers would just wait in hope of a reduction. This is why no one does this.

True this does mean GW are making currency margins on every Aus dollar they receive atm but this will change as the UK economy recovers. Then currency gains may well shift elsewere or dry up.

I'm just curious, have they ever lowered the prices?

Well kinda, when GW Ipswich was in Debenhams they used to get forces into reducing their stock for the sales, does that count? if not then the only one I can think is the old plastic terminators that they released at what £20/25 which quickly got repriced to £15.

Yes they have in the past and probably will in the future.

I worked for an FLGS for the last 5 years. There were times when GW stuff would go down during their "adjustments" but it was usually few and far between.

Remember when plastic termis came out? They were 5 for $50 and people said "How dare they charge me the same amount of money as the metal storm bolter termis!"
Well the models were bigger and had extra parts like that assault cannon they wanted $15 for just a week before.

Every now and then some things go down when they're re-released, Bloodcrushers were quoted just a little bit ago. A few things that come to mind are Tac squads, (when they got plasma guns), land speeders (when they got all the options), scout bikes, and black orcs (for that matter MOST fantasy elites go down when switched to plastic).

I've even been to a GW store during a sale! Oddly enough it was a customer appreciation sale (buy one get one no less) and I was asked to leave.

Doesnt GW have the "buy one get one for no less" sale going all the time, its always been one of the attracting factors of the store for me. Great deal, knowing GW, i'd expect a "buy one and get another one for 2x"

lol the first reply makes me laugh about inflation

prices do generally tend to trend up due to inflation but not UP UP UP RAR UP like GW seems to like doing!

also other luxury goods tend to have sales or occasionally drop in price, GW's products are immune from such scandelous practices!

"in the good old days" GW did a couple of clearance sales of older models or specialist bits. they even used to do a loyalty stamp army collector card
They also occasionally did buy 2 get a 3rd free, but these deals are from a decade ago
