I assume the squad at least gets to use his LD for tests, don't they?
Correct.

Really? So who are you? I'm assuming you also frequent Game Kastle. I'm usually there on Thursday (though not all the time). Just PM (private message) me if you want to get a game going.
Yeah, my list lacks the volume of fire that some of the other lists have. Instead, when needed, I either move in for the kill with my purifiers or lock up enemy units with my dreads if my shooting can't get it done.
I'm Gus, the young Tau player and "other lego builder guy". I've experienced the dread lock-up on battlesuits, and it works all too well! Sounds like you have a good list going there! I'll PM you about a game, if you'd like one.

Oh, right. Well, welcome to dakkadakka Gus. I've been wanting to demolish....er, I mean, play against your Tau. I actually have a rematch against Janthkin's nids this Thurs at 3pm. If you're there afterwards, we can get a game going maybe around 5:30pm or so.

In my experience Draigo is essential to paladins, not just to make them troops but to absorb the shots.
And yes, the biggest weakness by far is leadership. I've lost two tournaments because Draigo and squad failed a morale check.

Maybe with 6th Editions focus on ICs and Squad Leaders (rumors of course), the squad will inherit the attached ICs Fearless. Oh well, at least he is LD10... I find it hard to imagine Draigo and Paladins breaking and running scared.

I don't need to imagine it. Admittedly once was after Calgar and Lysander hit the squad and they nearly all failed their 4++ saves, so they tested on like a 3. Another time was on their natural 9.

I was more referring to it is almost unbelievable for Draigo, the most badessest ass badass who has walked the nightmarish realm of chaos itself and banished some of its most powerful servants, and Paladins, the elite of the elite of the elite in the Grey Knights... RUNNING after losing a few of their buddies, you'd think it would just make them fight harder.
Admittedly with ATSKNF they can't get swept, and sometimes it is in their best tactical sense to break off from a combat like that. Losing 25% in a shooting phase and then breaking seems silly.

While that's true of a footslogging army, it's not as big a deal IMO if they're protected in transports. Also, in a Draigo-based paladin army, you need them alive in objectives-based games. Thus, the survival of the paladins is more important. In a Coteaz-based paladin army, it doesn't really matter if they die. You've got henchmen for the objectives and can use those paladins as cannon-fodder.
Their non-fearless nature is what helps to balance out these type of deathstar units. It gives them a slight handicap...that they aren't totally invincible. I, for one, think it is necessary to limit their LD for balance reasons.

Hence, I run the fearless purifiers instead.
