Yes its the slug dragon... Its the one that is being casted a million times better than any of the best FW casts With fenris games behind the casting I know that at least I dont have to send it back to FW or email FW and wait one year for a reply...

Yeah, you just have to pay up front and hope that it gets cast within a year.

Its a better trade than having payed and received gak after a couple months waiting and never manage to trade the gak without spending considerable time in order to get just a reply or yeah spend money in international calls... in the end guess what? you have a model that isn't actually a caricature of a dragon.

Is it avaliable in any form of pre-release version? Have you seen it in person?

I think they encountered problems with casting the wings and caster has to recut them in order to be well casted... also there's 200 units ordered already so you would enter on some kind of waiting list... its going to take some ridiculous time before they clear all orders... It was one of those megalomaniac projects that look good on paper but its a nightmare to materialize... Yet one the best dragons ever sculpted, the design and detail is just incredible... when I look at this FW one I feel kind of sad... expected at least something like previous FW dragon...

But this (the FW) dragon is 4 times less expensive It's like comparing a Skoda with a BMW!?

Really intrigued by the Heresy one. And have been for a bunch of years now since, as you put it "design and detail is incredible".

But I want to see some "live reports" before I commit. Large parts can be a bit wonky, as the latest report on the dragon confirmed, when cast. As well as get some inspiration for how to paint it up...

No, I really need to paint my Warhound before I commit to yet another big project, but anyhow... the dwagon!

Banebeasts make amazing monsters

But yeah this is a beautiful dragon, not as nice as the fire dragon but it's about a quater of the price so no complaint there

That has always bothered me about dragons (and angels). It's an immediate turn-off if the wings are comically too small to be believable.

Angels only have wings symbolically in Roman/Early Christian Art to show they can move freely
Huge wings for corporeal angels is the product of the Victorian period.
Personally I don't see why angels would need wings.

The wing span to lift a dragon would be very large then of course if it was for powered flight rayjer than glide the musculature would be required to power them adding to mass requiring a larger wing.
Drakes must have some sort of magical assistance to fly

Endtransmission
Apologies for missing the caveat.

True about the BMW...
You know FW had the red dragon ( quite nice model with nice wings even if pose is a bit boring), then Heresy pushed the dragon standard to another level and when I read this topic title I was like, lets see FW kick some ass with a spectacular dragon and then I see this? Its not even close to the old FW red dragon, its not even on the same league, in fact this could be just a GW casual plastic kit.
The design is very dated and the same old mistakes that most GW dragons have pushes this latest FW release to the Non interesting Bin.

I'm also curious to see the heresy one in my hands and when I finally move and get some space for it I will save the money and buy it, even if I take 1 year to paint it it will be like a feeling of mission accomplished and thats why I prefer to spend 4x times more for a BMW

It's not -that- bad. It's just a... top-end Skoda. A Skoda that I wouldn't have any qualms driving around on the table with. Had I played squarebase of course.

I would have said that this was a good dragon. Not great, not bad.

But then compared to Mr. giant-yawn-because-my-enemy-is-getting-called-a-manticore-but-looks-more-like-a-frustrated-mangy-baboon Black Dragon, it's a transcendent piece of utter awesomeness.

I take it that it is the new Finecost resin that they are using there? NO? I wonder why that is......

I wonder if there is any level of embarrasment that you can go from total crap to great looking sculpt in the space of a model.

Whoever this "Trish" is, she's did a good job at accenting the scale of quality that is GW. Kudos to her and her work, too bad quality doesn't rub off on her coworkers.

Have just seen the GW newsletter for the Winds of Summer thing
Is that the Chimera that you are referring to Johira?
All those monsters look like they are yawning and or vomiting.
Except for the snake tail which looks like it is about to bite it's own arse.

This chap is much better

But they don't fly properly. They jump up and land again in the move phase. Personally I dont see how it can take off with it's tail wrapped around that tree stump. What really gets my goat is skaven tails, rat tails don't have rings, and their teeth are orange not white. And anyway there's no way those legs could hold up a beast that size. Someone should take them GW lot to the Natural History Museum to look at dinosaurs. Maybe they'll even find a few fossil forum posts like "that dragon cannot even fly".

I know exactly what you mean. Had a pet rat for years. It looked nothing like my skaven. Real rat tails have hair on them, and their teeth are yellowish-orange, not white.

The anatomy of that dragon is irritating to me. How does it move on such short legs? The wings also seem wrong, as if they wouldn't move correctly. I also get the feeling that the only reason that it's posed the way it is is because it would look silly in any other pose.

I saw the work in progess model of this dragon last year at Games Day and almost wet myself on the spot, and was incredibly disappointed when I couldn't find information on it anywhere.

Now it's released, I'm not that excited, and I don't really know why. It's still way better than the anorexic High Elf star dragon, but it doesn't scream out 'Buy me, buy me, buymeNOW!'. Looking at it again, apart from the base and the head, it's not all THAT different from the Emperor Dragon that GW used to have back in the mid to late 80s, but repositioned. That dragon was cool - at the time. Now? The way that the scales are done are the same, the wings are ALWAYS done in the same way - just kind of hanging there, not quite open, not quite closed, and always boring; the claws are a bit more detailed I guess, but still improbable... I think I might just have model and GW fatigue.

Anatomy is something that GW sculptors have very little idea over - look at this dragon, the Storm of Magic beaties (just terrible. Some more than others, but no boundaries pushed there at all ), their horses (oh, god. Their horses. Have they never even looked at a horse and obsered how it moves?).

I know it's been a bit of a GW-bashing couple of months, but I'm still not that excited about very much they're doing at the moment, and this isn't convincing me otherwise - certainly not when other companies are producing stuff that is just beautiful.

If they'd put out the dragon in the photo at the back of the Brettonian Army book (actually a converted [or possibly the original idea for] the Carnosaur), I'd be there.

Looking at the picture again I have to agree about the wings. Too horizontal. There needs to be greater dynamics.
Still think it is otherwise a good sculpt as far as one can tell from a single image.

As for that FW abomination, everything about is wrong: the anatomy, the physics, the pose, the gesture, etc, etc... You can get far better sculpts for far less from Mcfarlane. At discount even...

Not my favorite. It's too fat. The chest should be bigger than the stomach as a hungry dragon is a freaking scary one. Not a fat one.

You know, come to think of it? I DID see a pretty passable Cpt Hook....

That one that you showed there would be a pretty good mini, as well. Anyone out there see a sculpt that looks like this one? I'm interested for the Cutlass game.
