at archroy...actually to be honest it was a lucky strike i´ve found that name for some picten names... i am far from known in any galic at all... i just thought the description was fitting what i had in mind and i just compy pasted it in my fluff so to speak... i am very open to correction and suggestions tho... if you have any insights then plaese let me know...

i plan on to get the lot some daggers from an elven sprue as some sideweapons...forgot the english name for that... aren´t scotsmen supoosed to wear their pouch and a knife? i think i´ve read that somewhere...

anyway some day i will have to think up a tartan scheme... there is also possible suggestive space^^ and if someone knows a tut on how to achieve that i am all ears (err.. this is the interwebs and this means of course all eyes )

also i am currently working on four more men...one will be the sergant that already has a nickname...: the swan... you will understand once you see him^^

Dubh is definitley black in Gaelic (just checked) as in Dublin is the Anglicised version of Dubh Linn (Black Pool). So Black Devils I think is a great name.

And yes, the Scots do wear a pouch (sporran) and a dagger in their sock (a dirk).

The kilts look pretty dapper on those catachans Vik, i knew it was agood idea , even if you had it before me

so lads and ladies this is goimg to be my last update for the next two weeks as i am on our family vacation...

i made some changes to the commissar and then some more minis...for chibi, he might like to see the guardsman with the truly big horn^^ and then i made a machinegunner sort off and also a standard bearer... note that all these minis are pre GS so when i come back this will then be the first deed to the lot of them...

changed commissar.. last swordblade came off as the gluejob was crappy... then i took a SM chinsword arm as prostetics and added a granadearm with plasma pistol...


next is a trouser wearing thudgunner...he will get a better hat once i am back...



also trouserwearing lad here with standard...needs strapbelt for his lasgun...

Trousers would work, but they would have to be of the non-frilly type and would be called trews, they would lso be a matching tartan to your troops.
.I would maybe recommend only giving them to command or ranked models too.

Trews came about from when the English were trying to stamp out any signs of Scottish patriotism, in an attempt to bring them to heel. The English banned the wearing of kilts, so the Scots cut their kilts up the middle and sewed them together to make trews, thereby obeying the law but keeping their scottish identity.

Kilts (genuine kilts) are made from heavy thick woollen materials and are notoriously itchy on the gluttus maximus if you sit for any length of time without underwear (atleast they are to me), which could help explain their legendarywrath in battle. Imagine stting in a chimera for a few hours with a very itchy bum and i'd bet you'd want to relieve your frustration by bashing the nearest thing to hand lol.

Hopefully this can give you ideas for a tartan to go with your troops.

Black devils is a cool name, and your minis look ace, however I think you need to start getting a little uniformity in the poses, or they will start to look more like a rabble of crazy men than a disciplined royal guard unit.
They maybe Scotsmen in space but if you lookinto military history you will find that the Scots were some of the most fearsome and disciplined troops in the British Army, for example the Blackwatch and the Cameron Highlanders.
However the poses you have are really cool and I like the use oh the middenheim mordheim sprue pieces.

thanks dantay, this really helps a lot! i never thought about scotish fighters to be disciplined for now... this might change my work actually... i wanted to make them into a wild bunch.... seems i have to make some more disciplined looking ones...the trews are a great help for me to flesh the troops out some more! that was almost the same i had in mind too for the squad. and today in the evening i will do some reserach for the cameron highlanders and the blackwatch....a lil education after holidays is just the thing to keep the hobbyjuices flowing again^^

Blackwatch would be easiest, as it is dark almost black-blue and black-green. Plus their motto is cool, Nemo me impune lacessit (no one attacks me with impunity).

And yes they were discipllined, but they were wild at heart

just did a very quick google and pic search for he blackwatch... the tartan looks simply cool, the motto is something of a hairraiser for my neck, meaning oozes coolness too^^ with that in mind i will have to go through some of the minis i guess...maybe i will do a retouching via GS to capture some of the spirit of the blackwatch.... tho i have to say...the tartan and tartan in general i have a bad feeling about... how to on such a small scale and then with such dark colors...any ideas?

For BlackWatch, maybe paint the kilt dark blue, with dark green lines (horizontal & vertical to get a square pattern), you only need a few to gt the impression, then coat it with a black wash to really darken it down.

that sounds like a good way to get the tartan done...will try that out once i get to the painting stage again!

holiday was a mixture of many things.... my youngest two sons are in a state now that keeps me off balance most of the times, always trying out loopholes and sometimes openly rebellious... guess i have to live through that part of their childhood...then the weather was a mixture in itself too...but all in all it was nice and we did some hopefully not only for us entertaining stuff... sometimes having a young oe like you is easier in holidays because you can carry him all around... our younger ones are at least so good at ´footslogging now that we managed to hike about once for over 4km! we were very proud of them... mind you the youngest one oskar has just turned three! so that is quite the distance for him and he hand´t even had a nap at that day too!^^ he is quite the fighter^^
