As for range, with a 12 inch deployment, the 24" you mentioned is enough to hit everything on the board from turn one, not moving.
Los and cover, just shoot at the group in front. For players new to the game on a small table, there ARE a limited amount of ways. LRC still for the win, still nothing the bids can do, especially if there are lightning claw terms on board, supported by flamers.

Why are you still arguing this?
Because You think its a good idea to take a Land Raider (or 2) in a 1000pts game.

You can take a Land Raider. You can take assault terminators. You can also win ... but you can win much more easily with other things and not run the risk of loosing when you enemy takes a balanced list.

A balanced.... tyranid list? Versus a landraider? On a board where the landraider doesnt have to ever move past deployment?

In a 1000 point list, the Nids would need to also severely unbalance the list just to face the landraider. 3 zopes in a spore? Costs ten points less than the landraider, still a maybe. Two trygons, since one will assuredly die to terminators? That just cost 400 points.

I play mostly nids, and I am absolutely boggled as to what I would take, balanced or not, versus a landraider in a 1000 point game.
The point you seem to be missing is that on a small board, the landraider can hit anything it wants. You claim cover will save half. Ok, so the LR doesnt shoot at that unit, and instead murderizes another. In the meantime, the flamers on the sternguard/tac squad deny that cover and nid armor saves. They laugh about it and light cigarettes on the flaming corpses. When/if a nid squad gets to them, they are so depleted that there is no waaaay they will be able to stack wounds like they should be able to. 3+ armor save for the win, nids lose combat and either run or get fearless armor saves on a 5+ (usually the best they'll get). That also ends poorly for them. Terminators rip through any MC threat to the LR long before it becomes an issue. The LR simply drives up, unloads them, then it either dies or stays locked in cc to die the next turn when the LR moves away and finishes it. Oops.

Versus a landraider in a 1000 point list, there is jack squat the nid player can really do.

Tyranids attract more tang than an astronaut convention.

Well, it's also kinda douschy to take a land raider in 1000pts anyway... just a personal opinion.. If it's a friendly game it wouldn't be that great of him... and I still think sterngaurd would be better.

... Well lets look at the options a balanced nid list has vs 27 space marines ...

KP ... Pain in the Ass as you only have so few units but nid units should be able to pick off the weaker tactical units... getting the terminators out of their ride would be tricky ... but then a MC would be the best option. Tyrant* + Guard + cover; easily able to walk over to the Land raider and open it up ... so long as a weaker unit also charges with you can even block the terminators from charging back.

Objectives ... Easy win you have 2 scoring unit kill those and i can claim any of the objectives.

*(Note odds for a Tyrant (+adrenal) vs LR are 74% Sta. 37% Com. 12% Cru.)

Note that the odds of 5 LC terminators moving 12" in a landraider, disembarking, and assaulting the tyrant is 100%.

Yeah, of course. Because a hormogaunt will slice that landraider up in a death or glory as the landraider pushes through and turns.

I just rolled my eyes so hard I nearly passed out.

Right Land raider Tank shocks its now ether completely surrounded or its pass right through and is on the far side ... which makes no difference as I bubble wrapped the unit that means you place models all the way round.

The only thing you've done is make my job that bit easier.

Or, instead I take the landraider (6"x4") and drive it prettymuch straight up to you. Units around thetyrant will
Be fearless, and so will automatically mice out of the way.

I then spin the landraider ( pivoting) for free. Since it is longer than it is wide, I will clear a two inch bubble all the way around the raider as it turns 360 degrees in a circle. I then back up two inches, clearing a spot for the terminators to get out.

Again, you are more than welcome to death or glory. But there is no way to bubble wrap using smaller bugs versus a landraider.

You can't move within 1" of another model if you can spin while doing that hats of to you.

Actually checking the rules its tank shock instead of moving normally so you can't turn or reverse ether.

So as i said before only helping me by moving it closer.

Somewhere in south-central England.

What you are doing wrong is you are playing on a table which is far too small.

The trick to winning as the Tyranids is generally to use multiple threats to distract the other side from shooting key units to bits while the army spends two or three turns moving into shooting and charging range. Once within range Tyranids can develop a surprising amount of firepower, followed quickly by powerful charges.

By playing on a table which is a foot less across than normal (you would usually play on 48*60 inches) you have given the Tyranid player at least a turn's movement for free.

I'm writing a load of fiction. My latest story starts here... This is the index of all the stories...

We're not very big on official rules. Rules lead to people looking for loopholes. What's here is about it.
