Avatars of War resisted (as is Chapterhouse, as is Paulson), and GW's case apparently fell apart in the face of that. GW spends a lot of time working in the Fantasy tropes department because that niche is highly marketable, but it also makes it harder for them to lock down their imagery and designs as their own property.

That's why they go over the top with the skulls and spikes and Storm of Magic craziness; to differentiate themselves from the generic market. Ofc they also do the LotR stuff, that's as generic as it gets.

Afaik Raging Heroes were not sued.

They were not even sent a cease and desist.

They just asked (in a non legal way) for them to not sell it. RH could not be fussed about looking into the legality of it and just agreed.

THAT is a great looking sculpt.

I can see why GW woulldn't want to go up against top notch talent from this company...

AOW's stuff is superior.

I am really looking hard at thier whole range and liking what I see.

Have a question, though-

Why is it that ANYONE comes out with ANY miniature that someone spouts off at the hole about GW sueing them? They don't have the market on EVERYTHING, yet.

!@#$ GW. AOW is better.

Are there Elf company boxed sets in the same manner as the Dwarf Berserkers?

I wouldn't mind a hero and a boxed set for Mordhiem or WQ.

That would be a good little project.

@Grot 6: No elf plastic set.... Yet!

I am really happy seeing the wood elf from AoW, some time since Felix said he wanted to make this model.
Like the rest of the AoW model, this one is a beauty

Another great AoW model. Already plan on replacing some of my characters for their stuff.

Has anybody tried the game though? Or bought the plastic unit, for that matter?

Some people play to win, some people play for fun. Me? I play to kill toy soldiers.

I think I have a hetero crush on Edgar Ramos.
Everything he sculpts looks so crisp and natural.

GW actually hire some of them on a freelance basis. The founder, IIRC, did the Sternguard Sergeant model.

Which makes me wonder how much GW management stifle their sculptors creativity, if they make stuff this quality but when GW pays them, they put out pretty average models.

On topic, this model is fantastic. One of the many AoW models I'd buy just to paint.

Maybe they will do alternative torsos for future models - top on and off

nice enough model.

No, no, no! If they keep making nice looking elves that are actually clothed, I'll gladly buy them! As is, highly considering picking one of these up for my girlfriend's Wood Elves.

Kingdom Death Fanatic. Dark Eldar: Kabal of the Fragile Breath. Dark Elves: Allegiance to the Black Crown. Also, Masons, Cygnar, and Legion of Everblight. All unnamed.

Holy gak that is an awesome username. Please tell me your army is called Kabal of the Fragile Breath. Morathi's Darkest Sin has some competition here for best handle, I think.

I don't think it stands out enough for use in a wood elf army, but, as several have mentioned, would be awesome for WHQ or any dungeon crawl game.

I plan to use it for a display piece... most AoW models are not intended for standing in rank and file.

Oh geez, we're probably only a few years away from resin Slaanesh breast accessory packs, aren't we? Bewbify your entire army, each set comes with an even number of assorted breasts.

There is plenty of talent in the GW staff. Felix ( founder of AOW ) was a staff sculptor at GW for a while but was sacked for some reason ( I am sure the GW wranglers regret that now ). GW, in so far as I can tell, does nto employ freelancers. There was a bit of that when Warhammer Forge was ginnign up, but I think they have switched back fully to in house only.

As to the model itself. I think it is VERY well done for the genre and target audience. Though that is really nothign new for AOW. Felix knows his audience and caters to them very well.

Certain AoW minis wow me, others are still nice. I think this one falls somewhere in between for me. It doesn't stand out as amazing, but it's certainly a nice figure.

Edit: Do Wood Elves have a habit of prancing about naked? I thought that was just a Dark Elf thing. Despite going for a naturist coven look, Wood Elves seem to embrace clothing much more than their more spiteful brethren.

Well I do have two units of Foundry Nymphs for archers in my High Elf army - they look great and a few even have clothes but I am never too happy when they got great big rocks dropped on them by our Dwarf player :(

re Slaanesh you would need odd number of breasts as they tend to have just the one each?

The illustration for the figure is really great but the figure seems suprisingly different?

I'll agree with you to an extent. The new Dwarves look better than the current GW range. However, GW's newest models are pretty damned great. The new Skaven Stormvermin, Screaming Bell, and Warpfire Cannon are incredible. I look forward to other companies stepping up and delivering wonderful sculpts to compete.

I just wish I played Dwarves so I could buy AoW's stuff.

Skaven is a bit trickier. GW doesn't really hold the IP on generic Woodland Elf, but large mutated rats gets more gray.

Actually, GW made its first money with selling D&D rules containing wererats, years before they created the Warhammer game. And good luck also sueing the Japanese Mythology for using Nezumi.
