Theyve probably just come out so they can bring loads more out with the Hobbit at the end of the year, really cool though!

Ah, I'm sorry. I'd assumed that it would be a worldwide release: Lego is a large enough company they could do so.

Full agreement. Thinking about getting at least one medium-sized set. One nice thing about LotR Lego sets is that I can throw them in with my Kingdom sets. For instance, I have the Medieval Village set, so that can be used for Bree and the Prancing Pony as it does have an inn. Just need four hobbits, Strider and some ringwraiths.

Now my collecting looks dumb.

I thought lego gimli was a hobbit at first!

I saw the models in the first pic at the Brickworld convention 2011 in Wheeling Illinois (Brickworld 2012 is this weekend).

If you'd bothered to do any research at all, you'd be able to find similar pics from other convention goers on the web.

Second, while LEGO did some CG in the promotion of the sets and of course the backgrounds are photoshoped, the sets themselves are real and are now in store for purchase where I and many others have seen them.
