I am a fan of the beer and food gaming community. Find a few like minded people, invest in some 2x4's and build some inexpensive tables in your or someone elses basement. It can be casual and you can set up tournys on your terms.

Bring a pizza, offer up slices, start a conversation, ask to play a game. It can be hard to break into a social circle, especially if it's xenophobic as gamers tend to be. I find it hard to get in pick up games in my FLGS as well, but I met some great guys this last weekend at a tournament that offered to play me anytime they're available.

Tournaments are another way to break into the circle, since players are expected to at least speak to you. Letting them know that you enjoyed the game and would like to play outside the tournament is a good start.

What harm can it do to find out? It's a question that left bruises down the centuries, even more than "It can't hurt if I only take one" and "It's all right if you only do it standing up." Terry Pratchett, Making Money

"Can a magician kill a man by magic?" Lord Wellington asked Strange. Strange frowned. He seemed to dislike the question. "I suppose a magician might," he admitted, "but a gentleman never could." Susanna Clarke Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell

Go in there and start painting stuff like you're seriously trying to get something painted. Chaos cannot abide this and some one will come up and ask you if want to play a game. It happens to me all time.

2012- stopped caring
Nova Open 2011- Orks 8th Seed---(I see a trend)
Adepticon 2011- Mike H. Orks 8th Seed (This was the WTF list of the Final 16)

QFT x1000000. Most of the time these little locked up groups arent worth breaking into. They also tend to be some TFG and his group of lackeys. Ive encountered them in all variations of gaming. The only way to be a part of the group is to be a total mark for the main dude. Not worth it. Find out their names, then go to the other stores in the area and see if theyve heard of him/them. If you get a bunch of rolling eyes accompanied by a "yeah, THAT guy...", well thats all you need to hear.

Whats my game?
Warmachine (Cygnar)
10/15mm mecha
Song of Blades & Heroes
Blackwater Gulch
X wing
Open to other games too

I know this story, I lived it around here some years ago. I ended finding some like minded players and meeting at the stores to play. The rest kinda took care of itself after that. Hope it gets better for ya.
