The closest store to where i live is very clicky and is hard to just show up get some games in , most of the time I have to wait two hours or more for some random person to walk in to possibly have a chance of playing a game. This is on prime gaming day not just any day.
What are my options?

Are there any other stores in the local area?
Where's the nearest store besides the one in question?
What's your travel circumstances like? (e.g. can you drive, take the bus, etc)
Basically look about. If no such luck, there's always finding a game wiht your mates.

Find the biggest baddest one of the group and beat him down......in your game of choice. Once you've established dominance you may take what you want and play whenever you want to.

You can try talking to the other gamers and actually scheduling to meet for games, rather than just walking in and hoping for the best.
You could suggest the store sets up a 'challenge' board, where people wanting a game can nominate when they are available and others can write themselves in for the game.
Otherwise, getting friends or relatives interested is always an option.

Make new friends, and find a new store. Failing that, beat your opponets into the ground on the tabel, then games should not be a problem.

Crush them absolutely. Show no mercy and assert your dominance over them. Once you have completed this, change the group to be more newbie friendly.

So is it really 'cliquey' or is it just that most people tend to make arrangements before going to the store instead of hoping for a pick-up game?

we started our own gaming community in my friend's basement. Built a nice large gaming table, made some terrain and invited some people over for beer and games. We don't get super competitive, but no one likes to lose, and we are open to house rules and mostly play for fun. I avoid the stores to be honest, mainly because of the amount of kids, and the fact they really don't wanting to tossing back a few beers while you play.

Crush them ,drive them before you and hear the lamentations of their minatures. Get new friends. Avoid the cliques. They tend to be full of tards.
However I will always recall the time I crushed a guy who's clique told me that I'd loose as no one had beaten him. (I'm just a poor country boy what would I know... :-) ) Turn 2 I had his lord dead and dragon fleeing off the board... heheh..

Or you could try talking to the store owner / club runner guy and ask him to help you find a game. They should be happy to help as i'm sure they want people to enjoy themselfs and have a good game otherwises whats the of a club? Maybe also try looking out other lost and lonely looking people, say hi and make friends with them and ask them for a game. If people see you with others they will want to be friends with you to. I dont know what kind of person you are or how you act in public, but try smiling, being funny and take interest in others and people will like you and if they dont then f+*% them. Automatically Appended Next Post: or take a fit girl with you next time. The other guys will love to be your friend then!

I have also found in recent years that the gaming community has become very cliquey and unfortunately it really hurts the hobby. This was a surprising development, as gamers by definition are geeks, and it was always my understanding that the club geek is open to all whom apply.
A first step would be to talk to the people who frequent the store. Are they WAAC gamers, do they have well painted armies, do they run narrative campaigns, are they casual gamers? If you can't relate to them on the basis of common gaming interests then they are just $#!+$ and you should look elsewhere.
I saw several posts recommending the utter destruction of your opponent. In general this is a really bad idea. Even playing against WAAC folks, you will be viewed with contempt.

I think many people, once they get over the "zomg this game is awesome I wanna play every chance I get" phase, end up playing with only a hand-picked group of opponents with matching tastes regarding powergaming, table etiquette and such.

And that's no bad thing. It's their game, and they're under no obligation to play with people they don't want to play with. However, it seem unfair to dismiss strangers out of hand. Give the benefit of the doubt, play a few games, and then see if you want to play with that person in future. From the sounds of it, these people aren't interested in doing that, and that's a shame.

You want to set up a couple of 3 X 5 cards, or write up a paper with what you want to play.
I/E " Warhammer- Warhammer 40K- Warmachine player looking for other players. Send me a call 555-1234, or leave a note here."
Then have your stuff handy with a second army and ask a few that are standing around- "Hey, youknow anyone who plays this game?", and find out IF you even have players.
Migh mean you have no other 40 K or fantasy players, then its on you to start spreading the sickness...
Talk to the store owner, as well. He or she might be able to point you in the right direction.

At Games Workshop, we believe that how you behave does matter. We believe this so strongly that we have written it down in the Games Workshop Book. There is a section in the book where we talk about the values we expect all staff to demonstrate in their working lives. These values are Lawyers, Guns and Money. |

Another important thing to do is to run through fora and drill them hard: Post ads on kijiji, craigslist as well as the 'find a game' section on dakkadakka. If there are any other fora you frequent, put them up there as well. Eventually, you will find one or two people who perform a check once in a while, or who are just browsing, and you could find within a month or two that within 30 minutes walking distance from your house, the area is crawling with gamers.

Change people, just to try and know in general the people, rather than getting pushy and demanding a game. If you befriend someone then ask for a game. Get the staff interested and maybe try and get them into a game if they are thusly inclined and remember, if they don't want to have a game, its not to do with you, but to do with them.
