On a different route, I like the Big Mek w/SAG.

I put him with 'eavy armor and attach him to a trukk of boyz somewhere in the back of the board. Boyz get out and camp on an objective. Big Mek stays in his trukk and does what he does. Long range and has the *potential* to kill LRs.

More importantly, when those termies get out, you have a large blast AP2 template that can make him pause.

Some may scoff at the trukk method, but you have a 60" range. You should be camping out far away with this. If you are worried about outflanking units, the boys who get out can bubble wrap the trukk so it cannot be assaulted right away.

I cannot stress enough that this method will always fail the strength roll when you desperately need it.

Also, Zzap guns and kannons are also relatively cheap means of trying to punch holes in LRs. Not great, but it does give you an option.

Burna Boyz vs Terminators - WRONG. I jumped them out of their vehicle and attacked. Their I3 made them go last. There were none left alive to even try to strike with their Power Weapons. Actually, 2 full units of Burna Boyz were dead... but fast.

Wrong for this situation. Against thunderhammers this is a go. Against LCs, your boys stay inside and drop 15 templates on those termies.

Burnas are great at killing termies in CC if they're using Pfists or Thammers.

They are even better at killing any termies, regardles of loadout, with templates launched from a trukk/bwagon.

If your template hits four of the termies, and you're running a max size burna unit, you'll get 60 hits, average of 30 wounds, and he'll fail an average of 5 saves.

Piff, go the termies.

Addendum: Do not ignore how effective piling wounds on terminators is. According to my mathhammer it is typically more effective to burninate terminators with than it is to assault them.

You mean flame 'em with templates? Instead of using the Burna as a Power Weapon? I mean, you could force a lot of saves, but the AP on the Burna won't negate armour so I am not so sure.

EDIT - read above post, OK, I see, you're serious. Yeah, I like taking out 5 Termies, okay, maybe I should have stayed in the Battlewagon, I don't know, my opponent is very smart. He came on from reserve and advanced on the BW from behind. So I got the Burnas out and jumped him, but that was a bad move. I should have known better because I've witnessed the high(er) Initiative of Space Marines before, so I really shouldn't have charged him. If I stayed in the BW and flamed him that way, maybe, but then I'd be exposing my rear armour to the Termies if they charged the BW or expose it to the lazguns that were coming at me from the other side depending. So really, hm, there you have it, got caught between the Hammer and the Anvil that time.

I gotta watch out for those lightning claws!

Since the only things Orks have to kill land raiders are in CC (or battlewagons, which is about the same), most of the time the land raiders have already done their jobs (get their cargo into the fight) before you have the option to kill them.

Because of this and the assault ramps, it is fairly safe to assume that the enemy will be able to get to your Orks, and be able to launch an assault.

So, in my opinion it is more important to focus on handling whatever is inside (TH/SS termies is probably the norm as far as scary land raider units go). If you beat that unit, then you can focus on the LR itself, ideally waiting unit it has moved 6" or less, or not at all. Most units with klaws will just be wasting attacks if they are hitting on 6s. If you have a lot of klaws in a unit you might as well try, though.

If for some reason the enemy is using the LRs as firing support (rare, but doable and maybe not a bad idea vs Orks depending on the load outs and whatnot), then you basically just have to wade your way through the enemy until you get there and klaw them to death.

Rokkits should almost never be fired at LRs. Use them on rhinos and other things they can realistically hurt.

The only time you assault termies with burnas is if they are the I1 type, the lightning claws go first and that was just a bad move on your part. But yes, Ive heard of people use the templates on termies all the time, drop 1 template, count how many hits you have and multiply that by how big your mob is. So say you tag 4 of them, and you have 10 burna boyz for sake of being easy. Thats 40 hits from your unit in a wagon, you figure half fail to wound on average, so now that terminator unit needs to pull out 20 saves from its ass, its not going to.

Also, if I had to choose, I still would of went for the terminators, they are far more deadly then lascannons.

The ghaz man leading a squad of meganobz shoudl destroy a land raider AND kill whatever comes out of it. Granted, the meganobz will die in the process, but their purpose is not to survive, it's to swing ridiculous amounts of power klaws into the enemy.

Just like Burnas are for laying down ridiculous amounts of flame templates, Tankbustas are for laying down ridiculous amounts of Rokkits, and Lootas are for laying down ridiculous amounts of dakka.

Ha ha, I was SO CLOSE. I declared a WAAGGHH on the enemy's turn for the 2+ Invulnerable save. Somehow he took all my wounds before I could swing back... but just exactly. Ah, my kingdom for 1 more wound. Then I would have laid the HURT on them! Next time!

Yeah, agreed, bad move on my part charging the Termies with Burna Boyz. Next time I will find out what their Initiative is BEFORE I pull that stunt again. But yes, as tough as they are, it's probably better to fight them than Landraiders. Orks can handle that. Gotta be sure I have enough Orks in the area to really swamp him.
