SWAT is worse. It is like taking everything awesome about halo (vehicles, weapon variety, grenades, creative kills) and leaving you with a bland FPS experience where all you do is camp, or run around making headshots.

SWAT in Halo 3 is alright though. At least it gives you grenades.

Do what i do.
Refuse to use the cowardly weapons of the enemy and engage them in GLORIOUS hand to hand combat, only that way will the rebel alliance succeed.

Seriously, this is an understatement, I hope the guy who designed this playlist is shot for the bilge he created. You start off as a zombie, you're given a slightly faster movement and sprint, you think fine, but wait, you lost your shield, all enemies are packing Shotguns and you are constantly on motion trackers, so you can't even ambush them! In every single Infection game I've played, the game simply turns into a slaughterhouse simply because the humans camp in completly inaccessible areas and gun the zombies down. Like I said, the zombies can't even try to ambush them as they're constantly being detected. This playlist is quite possibly the worst gaming experience I have ever had.

What's Dakka's thoughts on this? Do you think Infection is a pain in the balls as well?

Is it now? Sometimes but the idea has been worn out a bit, especially when you're forced to play it like in Halo playlists where you don't get the ultimate choice individually (group vote unless the split off infection since I stopped playing reach). But it definitely was a blast on the original Xbox in Halo 2 as a completely ad-hoc fan-made idea that spread virally (no zombie pun intended). We used to hold private custom matches within the clan and only invite outsiders we trusted to play as the whole only using certain weapons and switching from zombie to human was completely player controlled. We would set it up on the old map that was a ring of rooms with crates with some central storage in the middle. The humans would generally rush up to one of the numbered rooms and try to move the boxes to barracade the door by melee'ing them while others watched for zombies. It was fun and channeled a heck of alot of night of the living dead IN SPAAAAAACE! Those I enjoyed but I think it was more the comraderie although the game type itself was fun too. Nowadays, no one except complete f-bomb dropping douches and 8 year olds ever talk in game chat anymore. :(

Ah, Infection. I remember playing this back in Halo 2.

There was one map that was, well, a circle with 2 levels. The top level had a bunch of small rooms with only 1 entrance in, and a bunch of boxes and stuff you could knock around.

I've got fond memories of rushing to that room before it got walled off, and then holding back the zombie team, until that one critical moment when the defenses broke, and it was a mad scramble to get out of the room.

It was also fun watching the people who didn't make it to the room in time flip out, then get stabbed in the back.

I have 3000 custom games in Halo 3.

You can't play Fatboy in Reach, so I never bothered with them in Reach.

I love infection, its very fun, but bungie needs to make forge specific maps for infection in Halo: Reach just like they did for Halo 3
in Halo 3 they forged the maps so they could get rid of most (if not all) of the camping spots that would be too hard for the zombies to kill the humans, they didn't do that for Halo: Reach

working on tau
and working on steel legion
and I freakin LOVE khorne!

I wouldn't know, the game hasn't been released yet on PC.

LOL, is it a conscious choice to pick underdogs with little support from publishers? First SOB, then a seminal console series on the PC... I'm noticing a pattern!

PC gaming isn't the underdog, so much as it's merely something that they cannot completely and utterly conrol, so Microsoft wishes it would go away so it could focus on making money on the xbox which they completely control.

Despite being hands down better technologically, it's also a significantly bigger headache for developers due to varying hardware compatibility and piracy making it the underdog in recent years. I'm part of the problem as I switched from being a pure PC gamer to purely console at the end of the original xbox llifecycle; the idea that I'd be spending another $2000 on a gaming laptop (like I did in college with student loans!) was a bit sickening. I was left with the quandry of having a need to play Star Wars Battlefront but having a pc incapable of doing so even on the lowest settings at the same the original xbox dropped to $150 for a nice bundle at Circuit City. Despite my apprehension at wielding a controller with so many buttons (dpad, a, b, start, select is where I left off on the NES!), I jumped on in.

Sure, there are most definitely some great PC-only titles but it seems like most developers switched to console first, pc maybe a few years back. The pendulum has swung a little bit back to the middle in the past year or so though especially with the rise of services like Steam that automate the previously clunky patching process. I wouldn't hold my breath for a PC version of any halo game though in the future short of a quick cash in / tie in flash game for an upcoming console release.

That's definitely not the reason Microsoft does its best not to support the PC gaming market.

Also, it's more expensive and slower for third party companies to develop for consoles because you have to deal with all the licensing and testing they do which is painfully expensive and slow for developers. Especially if they want to release patches for their games.

warboss wrote:the idea that I'd be spending another $2000 on a gaming laptop
Your laughable decision o intentionally choose the most expensive example is nonsensical. I can get a gaming PC for la damned bit less than I could a gaming laptop.

And your trolling tone is completely unneccessary as nothing in my post was confrontational; I was simply relaying my own personal reasons for making that choice. You also only partly quoted me as I said I did that in college which was around 2000 and computers in general (especially decent laptops) were MUCH more expensive then than now, also the case in 2005 when I switched to consoles. Sub $1000 desktops just arrived while netbooks and laptops under that price range were a gleam in a Best Buy salesman's eye. No reason to get snippy (and that's the pleasant way of putting it) just because your choice of gaming platform is ignored by alot of publishers.

I would LOVE reach on the PC, so much easier to aim with a mouse, and it would be easier to forge on a computer as well...

and to the OP I only play infection on custom maps, because bungies maps suck for infection
