Army Painter primer. Citadel paints for the rest. Oh, and P3 Jack Bone as a bone basecoat, since I think Citadels Bleached Bone is a bit too bright for the main colour, but fine for highlighting.

I've wanted to try Vallejo, but my FLGS doesn't stock it due to is being too similar to Citadel and he already has too many paint ranges. To be fair, he sells Citadel paints about 50% off.

i use a combo of citadel and testers, mainly because testers has better colors for metals and such.

I don't stray from Reaper. They have all the colors I need. Disadvantage are they are expensive when you have 216 paints in a 0.5 oz dropper bottles that have to constantly be replaced. But I'm too lazy to experiment with mixing paints, and they have every color range you could think up, that was why I went with Reaper paints in the first place

I actually use the Apple Barrel paints for bulk items and in the airbrush because its REALLY cheap and works well. I use another brand right next to it at micheals for bulk metallics (great colors)

I have the old megapaint set, with adding in the new colors (so one of everything Citadel puts out) and I use them for highlighting or details as the paint pot is much smaller and I use less of it.

its a mixed bag. go with what feels right for you.

but consider this, acryllic paint is for all intents and purposes the same. water and pigment.

citadel paint non metallic $4 for 0.4oz's. Apple Barrel, $0.89 for 4 oz's.

you end up paying near 4x as much for 10% of the paint. thats all I am saying.

Apple Barrel is not perfect by a stretch, but you can make it better by cutting it with different solutions and water.

oh and for reference, the megapaint set was a gift from a friend that was leaving the hobby. I did not pay for it. (I am just grateful to have it )

Citadel for the most part, plus a few Vallejo colors

Citadel primarily, with a smattering of Vallejo. I admit it's mostly because I'm used to them at this point. I see little quality difference between Citadel and Vallejo other than the Vallejo bottles are more convenient. I do firmly believe that Citadel washes are some of, if not the, best tools for beginning and gaming-focused painters to get quite good looking models, and I've yet to see another company, or a home mix, match them.

my thing is this, Apple barrel paint is VERY inexpensive. so if you're young, money is a luxury you don't usually have alot of. try saving some.

want more terminators? instead of spending $20 on paint for 4 citadel paints, spend $4 on the same paint from Micheals (or wherever, hobby lobby whatever your crafting store is) and save the $16 for those terminators down the road.

I run cheap acrylic paint and some pre-mixed floor wax. they paint perfectly citadel or not.

go spend $5 in apple barrel (or the like) paints, buy a few, try them out. if you don't like them for models, you can use them on terrain. its not wasted money, and you get much more paint.

I just use whatever acrylic paints I come across and looks like will be useful.

I bought my current paints as massive sets from the Foundry a number of years ago. Those are supplmented by the remaining metallic paints I have from my original Citadel paint sets (which I've had for some 25 years or so....not a bad shelf life all things considered.). All of the Foundry paints came in the same type of paint pots as the original citadel paints.

Best aspect of the Foundry sets is that they are set in 3 bottle color palettes which include the base color and a shade and highlight shade. Makes for much speedier painting as you aren't spending much of your time mixing colors to shade and highlight with.

Mostly citidal but for white its always vallejo, takes a lot less coats.

As much as I would like to use Vallejo I don't because they're not readily available. I use Citadel as they're the next best thing.

I use a bit of everything, my main line is reaper becuase i find it easier to layer with. I use vallajo for most of my base coats, plus their black because it covers so well. I use GW metalics and washs because they are the best IMO. I also have some colors from other lines that I mix in as well because they have a shade I really like.

Pretty much any of the main brand minature specific acrylics will be the job done, they all have positives and negatives which in my mind is what makes each of them useful.

I would recommend against useing any of the cheap paints mentioned in this thread, the reason that you get so much for so little is that they use syntheic pigments. Syntheic pigments are much more prone to fading then conventional pigments...

Sam, you barely have any, you have like 8, when I have about 60+.

Depends on your local area. About half of the local hobby shops in my area carry Tamiya's paint line. Specifically look for RC stores, as Tamiya's paints are formulated to be durable on radio controlled vehicles and a little more flexible when dry to allow for the vibrations and movements of those types of models.

Citadel paints are the best. I used to use acrylic paints, but the colour is just not as good as the citadel paints.
