I agree with aerethan, the internet has tons of IOB Skaven sets for like 30-35, so like three of those gives you around, 6 Rat Ogres, 2 Warlords, one of which you can convert into a BSB, 2 Warlock Engineers, 6 Weapon Teams and about 108 Clanrats/Slaves (Not counting the copies of the unit command)
For 90-105, that ain't bad.
Yes, but then you need your Bell/Furnace, your HPA, and a Cannon or two. That's easily another $140 just to fill out your army. If you want a 2000 or 3000 point list, you're going to need at least two more sets of IoB rats or go the rout of Monks/Stormvermin. See how Skaven start to rack up the $$$? Now compare that to Ogres.
Again, Skaven are a good value for your money due to the IoB but they are not the cheapest army out there. That said, I really do love my skaven and am slowly building toward my 3000 poing grand army.

Name for me one restauraunt that will let you come in with you bag of McDonalds and sit there and eat - other than another McDonalds. See how many times Starbucks will let you sit there using their WiFi while drinking a mocha from Tulley's. Go to an Apple store with your Dell laptop and see if they'll let you use their WiFi to connect to Zune to download your music.
GW is in the business of selling the models that GW makes, nothing more and nothing less. If you don't like that, then don't play your games there.

Thanks yes Avatars of War.
Ya no don't attack each other that proves nothing.
Gw is a company they want to make money and well if you go to their store they can make their rules.
If you don't want to use gw models don't use them, but don't complain if they don't let you use them in their stores.
There really isn't more to it then that.

Spartan 117 wrote:Hey guys my buddy is looking to get into WHFB. He plays Eldar in 40k. He likes the Skaven but doesn't want to pay a whole lot money wise. I told him your going to have to for sure if you play Skaven. He wants to play WHFB but get an army as cheap as possible. So the question is which army would be the cheapest money wise to start up besides the IOB Skaven and High Elves? I thought it would be Ogre Kingdoms but Im really unsure. Need some answers on this on dakka because I know 40k a lot more then WHFB as I just started WHFB myself earlier this summer.
Mantic Dwarves, specifically this army box.
Costs £50 or $80 and will give you a 1500-point dwarf army. Add a few characters, maybe another unit or 2 and you can easily stretch that to 2000.
You can either buy it direct from mantic with free shipping worldwide, or from a webstore with a discount.
Half of the people here on dakka will tell you that you're an idiot for buying them because the mantic minis look like turds or whatever.
Ignore the haters and form your own opinion. I'm not a fan of GW, but they do make nice models and are a better option if you are loaded with money.
Regarding the threadjack, I can only state that Mantic allows GW models to be used in it's official tournaments, they have no problem with it at all, even if you don't own a single mantic model.

I dunno. I think AoW dwarves look a lot better than what either Mantic or GW currently has. Selection is a little limited at the moment though.

AoW anything looks better than GW IMO. It would be refreshing to see GW do such quality work. I personally have the Dark Elf Sorceress and am also planning to buy the Warrior Priest, Chaos Lord and Orc Shaman. All of which are better than their GW counterparts.

I am not 100% on the AoW model there were a few things I personally didnt like.
Sword was too short adn stubby looking.
Face and shield details were not very deep.
The main body and cape are excellent tho.
But over all I do like the gw models (the warrior ones the knights etc etc).
I dont like the skeles tho most of which look quite lame. (this does not include the new tk stuff becasue that stuff is sick).
But ya most of the models look good down side they are getting so expensive that this hobby is hard to stick with thats the sad thing.
