One of those ideas that I can't believe hasn't already been done...GENIUS!

I really like the idea, but the cost is too high for me when I have a 22 models for Firestorm Armada, and another 20 for Eldar. I think I will be making some of my own, albeit not as nice versions of these.

The 1.5" hexes might be a bit unstable. Depends on how heavy the model is that you put on top. If you have problems you can add a few washers around the base of the rods to give them a bit more weight.

I got the stands this past Friday (kudos on the quick shipment) and they are a perfect solution. I tried them out on my 1/200 resin jets and I can say I have no worries at all about stability. If my minis had been white metal then it could very well have been a problem but the resin ones weigh so little that even with the telescoping rod fully extended it took more than a slight nod to make the setup topple over.

Great news Kymera! We got some 1/300 scale white metal WWII stuff in. The small fighters work great. We got a P-51D and a B-17. The B-17 doesn't work with the small magnet. It barely works with a larger magnet we had laying around. He produced a tutorial for the P-51D and a video of various models working with the magnets.

I'm working on more. I need to find a smaller Spartan Games fig that doesn't already have the mounting peg installed. I think all mine either have the left overs from an acrylic rod in them or they already have the peg installed.

Can I ask where you got the 1/200 resin jet? I'm trying to get a good collection of models in to make tutorials with.

@dreyco We are working to drastically reduce the cost of the rods. I'm still not comfortable with how much time it takes to assemble each rod. We found some new suppliers and are doing enough volume to get a good rate. I'm looking at new equipment that might help reduce those costs a lot. Designing some new jigs as well. When all that is done we hope to be able to reduce costs a bit.

I got the resin jets from Armaments in Miniature

Their website is a bit outdated, I bought the models from them at Historicon last year.

I picked up a bunch of the Omni stands for use with Firestorm Armada. The stuff is great and very high quality. You can actually save yourself money in the long run if you wish over traditional stands by simply mounting the Omni mount on your model and then only having the number of stands you need for an actual game. Because it is easy to screw/unscrew the model from the post/base you have great flexibility.

The only issue I ran into is I wanted to mount the mounts as flush as possible so I drilled into the model. You have to be very careful to get this plum or your model will be tilted. One trick, if the model is big enough, is to drill a slightly larger hole and then you can wiggle the model around to get it level and then let the glue dry.

I just have to say I really like this idea, how you're running your website, and how you give feedback to your customers. Just an overall great job, thanks for doing this.

Find a machine shop that has screw machines or turret lathes they turn out higher volume faster so you pay less for labor as the machines are mostly computer controlled or automatic.

I had an idea for the large flying stands for Dystopia wars and firestorm armada but I need some computer time on a comp with mastercam to see if it will work.

The flight mounts works great in display boards too. I'm currently protoyping my magnetized DE board and I've found the Omnistand stuff to be a great tool for integrating my skimmers better with my units and terrain.

I added a few of the omni mounts into the terrain and covered them up with some green stuff. Since the terrain is magnetized it makes it really easy to screw the raiders in. I really like that I can easily add a more dynamic appearance to my skimmeras and then be able to quickly swap them back to game mode. I was able to flip this board upside down and have everything stay put.

I would like smaller mounts though as I could use a mount that's about 1/2 as long. Sometimes there's no way to drill that far into a model without damaging detail. or actually drilling through the model. It would also let me utilize the resin bases that my armies is themed on without having to add giant rocks or other features to cover the mount. Maybe just have the the mounts used in their prefab bases for sale ?

Overall I'm quite excstatic about the product. My models feel studier with these mounts then any magnets or other basing system I've used. Being able to remove the base and have the same solid feeling on my display board is pretty cool.

That is the coolest use of an Omni-Stand to date. I love seeing what people dream up and use them for.

I've been playing around with making platforms out of them. if you screw two bases to the rods then it makes a nice platform. I was using it for jumping mechs in battletech. I thought about filling the gap with cotton or something to make it look like jet exhaust.

You have me thinking about making the brass insets available as mini mounts. They are really low profile. It takes specialized equipment to insert them into acrylic bases but just gluing them to a miniature would work fine. They are 0.150" in length.

Is there a standard size for the flyer bases? I assume your talking about the larger oval bases. If someone can get me the length and width then we can make then easy enough.

We also have 30mm clear round bases in the pipeline.

I'm a GW noob so let me know anything else you guys think is needed and we can try to accommodate.

Not just the base forgeworld Thunderhawks weigh about 5 pounds and they need at least a 6" round base 7" would be better the stand should be larger about an inch should do it and it needs a different mounting type more like a cradle to set it on to get the balance right.

I looked at some shots of the Thunderhawk. If the base has no game play issues related to it then simply add 2 60mm round bases. One to the front and another to the back. Then you are free to use the cargo space for whatever you need. Mount it on 3" rods and it should work fine.

You might be able to get away with dual telescoping rods to give it more height flexibility and it will be easier to balance it.

60mm might still be a bit small for stability issues but the 4" hex would work great.
