But I'm not the Ravenwing. Or can I use a spearhead with 9 typhoons?

you have 3 fast attack slots. 3 squadrons of 3 typhoons each. Any marine codex can do this(except GKs)

OHH I must have been thinking in terms of 1 per slot. Why was I thinking that?? Should each squadron have a different weapon? ex= 2 squadrons with heavy bolters 1 squadron with multi- melta

the Heavy Bolter synergises best with the Typhoon missile racks due to its range.

Typhoons want to hang back at maximum range and toss missiles at the opponent.

against vehicles, you can move 12" and fire the Krak missiles. the HB can't be fired as its a main weapon and it won't do much to vehicles anyway.

against infantry, you can move 12" and fire both the Frag missiles and the HB(as the Frags are defensive weapons)

by staying mobile and at maximum range, you limit what can threaten you. light and medium weapons are out of range and anti-tank weapons have better targets(landraiders and rhinos)

Nope. 9 typhoons. 18 bs4 str 8 missiles a turn that can move 12 and shoot, or 18 small blasts and 27 heavy bolter shots that can move 12 and shoot (yes, frag missiles are defensive).

edit: sniped! kudos to you, Mr. Templar!

LoL, Russ would 9 Typhoons and 18 missiles a turn scare your Orks a bit? (It scares me and I don't even play Orks...)

18 Frag blasts is a scary proposition for any army, even if they spread out. and the 27 HB shots are just icing on the cake.

and all for only 810 points(Vanilla codex anyway. I think its cheaper for BTs)

well, thats why you don't deep strike them, although the 3++ save should be enough to save them from most anything.

Assault Terminators are best when coming out of a Landraider.

OH I still have a question about the drop pod; is it worth getting one? Because it seems like it is only good for show, but I'm not sure because I don't have one.

Drops pods are meant to get your squad where they need to be, the same way Rhinos are. The only issue is that they can't move afterward. They're great to deliver a shooting squad within rapid fire/melta range of their target, but you run the risk of having that squad alone in the middle of the enemy army with no support. A well synergized list with a number of drop pods can do fairly well.

if you do Drop Pods, its either to deliver a suicide Melta squad or 2(Multi-melta Dreads are also popular) or your entire army is coming down in them.

BTs don't have Drop Pod assault so they roll for reserves as normal with Pods.

Oh ok, that is good information, thank you Grey Templar. I'm not sure if I asked this earlier, but which is a better choice, razorback with lascannons or with heavy bolters?

the HB is ok because its free.

It entirely depends if you need some longranged anti-tank. if so, the Lascannon isn't a bad choice. the main problem is that the squad inside probably wants to move forward and get close to the enemy while the lascannon says stay back and shoot. its also a 70ish point tank as opposed to a Rhino at 1/2 the cost.

So basically, a lascannon equipped razorback is good for a devastator squad (which I'm pretty sure BT cannot have) Is that correct? Because I would love for it not to be true, except that I love the chainswords haha

Man I wish I could use them without wasting a squad of initiates and neophytes by mixing in a lascannon or two. Now what is the predator exactly good for? It has ranged capabilities, but why would you want an autocannon over twin linked lascannons? Lascannons rule!

the Autocannon and HB sponsons are much cheaper and are good against infantry.

Normally, you don't get the Lascannon turret because its insanely expensive. the BT codex is cheaper then the vanilla in this regard.

the typical Predator loadout is either Autocannon with Lascannon sponsons for anti-tank(autocannon can hurt medium vehicles) or Autocannon and Lascannon sponsons.

triple lascannon is really expensive. TL-lascannon and HBs is just stupid, it has no focus and you are always wasting shots.

Are Hunter- Killer missiles worth the points? You can only fire them once right?

They are ok.

they work best if taken on many many vehicles and you basically perform a turn 1 Missile blitz. 6+ Krak missiles will hurt something.

They're alright but nothing amazing. They're one shot only though.

Do you have the codex? You have a LOT of questions that could be answered by a cursory glance through the codex.

Ya i have the codex, but it seems like I'm always curious about the little things in the codex. And now that you mention it, most of the questions that I have asked are very obviously in the codex, such as the hunter killer missiles, and weapon options. I guess I just like to get other people's opinions on these things.

Don't forget the recently-released Black Templar FAQ, either. It's what keeps Templars semi-competitive, albeit as a bizarre Landspeeder-and-Tactical Terminators army.

Speaking of, I wouldn't go overboard with the Typhoons. Get some, sure, but they're unlikely to stay at 70 points if the Templars ever get updated. I try to future-proof as much as possible, though that's rather difficult given part of GW's job is to make sure their customers' future-proofing doesn't work.

Unless they do indeed decide to throw fluff out the window and make the Black Templars the Landspeeder chapter. Who knows.
