grots can go some damage when used right. mostly assaulting tau or IG. though i fondly rememebr a time a 10 man tac squad charged my lowly 19 grots and ruth. the marines lost 6 to my 4 and 1 more saved on the fall back . my turn 15 grots and a ruth finished them off though taking mroe casualties this time (statistically it should be noted that shouldld not hae happened)

but yea never underestimate grots they acomplish with sheer numbers much liek boys but cheaper and not as good (but half cost)

The only advantage of a slugga/choppa is the orks will run instead of shoot. It makes it more simpleminded.

Uhm, I think you might be overestimating the sheer suckyness of Tau in CC. Against boyz yes they are toast, but boyz are pretty decent in CC, grots OTOH........the only thing I can think of is maybe numbers, but who runs huge ass blobs of grots?

Sluggas in Trukks for turn 2 suicide assault goodness, large mobs of shootas on foot for objective holding, firing on softies and CC specialists, and slowly marching to the enemy's front line where they can mob the survivors.

Large mobs of shootas are great in close combat against non-scary CC specialists. I'm quite happy to charge a squad of terminators with 20 shoota boyz (with the PK nob, naturally), and most of the time I come out on top quite happily. Shoota firepower also has a habit of being surprisingly nasty when one doesn't expect it. I fondly remember one occasion where only a single shoota boy was in range of a tactical marine squad. The lad killed two marines

Neither are outright better than the other- they serve different roles, and I sink about an even amount of points between them, and I would be pained to be without either. One may prefer one over the other depending on ones playstyle, though.

Think I'm going to do a mob of 20 Shoota's and run some Slugga boyz in a Trukk/Battlewagon.

May just Footslog the Slugga's though depending on points... Im playing my Brother who has just re-started Dark Angels, we had one basic skirmish and the Slugga boyz rinsed him big time, so I think he would concentrate his fire on them and not the Shoota's. Underestimate them!

Had a Slugga boy who rolled a double 1 Morale test and then produced 2 on the next 2 turns to save his ass. took 4 marines 3 turns to get him!

We need MOAR Dakka!
