I gave up on superhero movies after Wolverine (and didn't bother seeing ANY of the spiderman films - I was never really into the spandex crowd anyway).

At least it doesn't have Ryan-bloody-Reynolds in it.

Amen...

I've seen absolutely nothing in recent trailers ( this one included) that even remotely makes me want to see any of these films, in fact the only "comic book" film I'm interested in at all would be Nolan's upcoming Batman movie.

I notice they might be developing the dead parents part of his origin. Do any of the Comic runs elaborate on this? Or is it always just a simple car crash/accident?

Totally agree, unless they did a movie of The Authority.

Then I'd be giggling like a schoolgirl and buying all the tickets for one showing so just me n Mrs S could go see it together.

Isn't it too early to remake this series? I mean the last series isn't even 10 years old. We just had this.

I think they once implied that the plane they were riding in was shot down by Dr. Doom/evil person who owns a country for some political reason, but it was covered up, then maybe they did some espionage, then at the end he finds a document that fell out of the CIA folder showing that his parents made the right decision and weren't participating, but still got shot down by evil person.

Considering he already played that role in Wolverine... I would agree.

As much as I hate to admit it, I got used to Tobey as Spider Man. He is the face of Spiderman to me.

Also, WHY THE HECK DID THEY DO THAT TO VENOM!?

Meh, I'm open to this, but I'm not looking forward to it.

Also, forgive my ignorance, but who is the Proto Goblin?

Basically the immediate predecessor to Green Goblin. Norman Osborne basically tests an (even more) experimental version of the serum that turned him into Green Goblin on one of his employees, driving him mad and physically deforming him into a devil-like creature (red skinned, etc.). IIRC, he tried to kill Norman Osborne for what happened to him, but runs away and disappears when the cops show up, never to be seen again. To my knowledge, he and Spidey never encountered eachother.

Cheers, could be interesting. Maybe instead of Spidey fighting him, it shows Norman doing creating Proto Goblin and then going "Back to Formula"?

Hrm. Not sure how I feel about it. Looks like it might be okay, and some elements look interesting. I like the IDEA of POV-web-slinging to make it more visceral, but the fx there were crap.

Honestly I thought, with a few missteps, that Raimi's first two movies were quite good. The casting was excellent.

4M2A wrote:I'm glad they are redoing the first story, it'll make it even easier to pretend those old spiderman movies never existed. Spiderman needs a movie where is he a hero not someone to feel sorry for.

Have you read any of the comics? From the 60s through at least the 80s (when I had a subscription) Peter was almost always the guy getting the short end of the stick. Incredibly intelligent, super powers, nice guy, but getting shafted at every turn by life. Girl problems, job problems (unreliable, low money, Jonah the nightmare boss), money problems, sick aunt, having to drop out of school, etc. That's the character. The irony is that when he's fighting crime and supervillains and nasty criminals that's when he's relaxed and confident and happy.

And I had so much hope, when I saw the teaser poster. Oh, well. It can't be worse than the last trilogy. I haven't seen the Green Lantern but it seems that (Marvel heroes) comic book adaptations could learn something from Nolan's Batman.

I dunno why we need a new Spiderman Part 1 .. the original really isn't all that old and the CGI is gonna be just as cheapy. I guess they just wanted to make another 3D movie that everyone will forget about in a few years...

I dont like what its become.

Are they trying to make out like Spiderman was a test before he was bitten? Similar to The Hulk, where his father experimented upon himself and his son?

Protogoblin was in like 1 issue of the comic in 40ish years so it isn't suprising most people don't know who he is.

The Ang Lee Hulk was different that the new Marvel Film Universe one and in interviews with the cast and production it was talked about how they looked at real world genetic mutation and such how it made more sense that way. They wanted a more logical approach to why his cells would be susceptible to such a radical transformation, which required it to be something passed along.

Apparently in one version of Spider-Man (Ultimate maybe?) his parents were basically super spies scientists and that is why the were killed. Peter finds some of his dads research and that is how he ends up creating the web spinners at 16. I didn't read that story so I don't really know the details but a friend who is nutters for Spidey told me that was the first thing he thought of when he saw the trailer.

Amidst the mists and coldest frosts he thrusts his fists against the posts and still insists he sees the ghosts.

I don't have a problem with him having issues in his life, thats one spiderman's features. My problem with the previous films was that they showed him as someone who was more interested in complaining and brooding than being a superhero. They need to find a balance between Spiderman and Peter.

I had the same though as soon as I saw the scene with his parents. IIRC in that version his parents were spies and when he discovers their research it leads him to a lot of the superhero characters who work alongside the governemt. I hope they do go this route as it will at least make it different.

Word. I don't mind stories that come from Comics (300, the upcoming Cowboys vs. Aliens). Its a nice hothouse for new ideas for mediocre summer movies. But superhero movies...meh.

Spoiler:

Having said that I quite liked Xmen origins, but that was because of Spengler's (sp) acting and Magneto's travels. I could have cared less about the rest of them and just did a movie about Magneto chasing der Nazis.

Thanks for sharing... so, you are saying this is a re-imagining?

Also, you seem to have alot of friends who are nutters for one thing or another... DnD, Spiderman... what's next?
