Creed can be pretty good if used right, and the twin hotshot las pistols aren't a laughing matter,
marbo is nasty if used right, kharn is good as a one man wrecking ball, if Chaos get uber cheap cultist's then he may become very nasty as you dont care that his unit dies if they cost nothing in comparison to real troops

For SM: Vulcan, Cantor are great for rules and combat.

As a BT I guess the what the EC does for us is pretty damn amazing for 140 points. 90 pts for a 2 wd, str 6 2+/4++ i5 model, 50 for army wide PE.

I'm going Marbo, for not a whole lot of points you get a guy who will (almost) always make up his points at least once over. And he doesn't compete for an HQ slot, elites are probably the least competitive category in the IG codex. He does tend to be a one hit wonder but he hits HARD.

Straken hands down. An IG commander who basically has power armour, a power fist that strikes at a whopping I3, and has a bubble buff that turns your average guardsman into a semi-CC unit. Plus he has a shotgun AND plasma pistol, funniest weapon combo ever.

The Sanguinor, he's a useful support character for the sergeant blessing and the +1 attack to anyone within 6 inches of him, good for assaults, but rerolling all failed to hit and to wound rolls against any 1 character while at 5 attacks? Thats some serious hero sniping there.

Nightbringer for me, assuming that you're not fightinf sniperspam or Dark Eldar.
He may cost an obscene amount of points, but i've rarely had him get killed without making back at least twice his cost.

Worth the points?
Easily Trazyn the infinite. For about 200 points, you have a special charachter that lands one hit on a platoon of 300 imperial guardsmen, he kills 300 imperial guardsmen. Kickass!
Also, old zogwart from the orks. It can turn someone like maraenus calgar into a squig (ownage!)

Uriah Jacobs, St. Celestine and Arch-Confessor Krynov. Those three are so good for their price that you should pretty much ignore the fact that there are non-character HQ in the new SoB codex.
Mephiston is amazing, will eat almost anything, three decent psychic powers+force weapon and he can activate 3 of them everyturn. There are wrong ways to use him, but even then he's decent.
Papa Smurf is pretty awesome in the right context (as much as it pains me to admit). If I ever play vanilla marines I may have to make a renamed one.
I've seen Commander Farsight be a wreaking ball, but I haven't actually played tau, only against them.

It's horribly depressing that nobody's mentioned Ahriman. Is he really not worth a mention at all? (Granted, I suspect he isn't 'cause I can get a Sorcerer in Termi armour that can do almost as much as Ahriman for less points, and has a 2+ armour save instead of 3+ to boot, sigh).

Had some very good experience lately with Dante. Putting his honor-guard down on an exact spot is great. Blew up a squadron of Russes that way. If you don't use the deepstrike, he's a little over priced, but they again why wouldn't you, especially if you can get most of your army to DoA.

Screw the Stormlord. Throw this guy in a command barge and he'll roll around killing guys in melee while mind controlling tanks to kill other tanks. Can you picture him in apoc? "Look at that 1000 point vehicle... MINE!"
That, and he turns some immortals that are somewhat decent in assault.
And of course if he's not in range of something, he can do one of those infinite range arrow snipes, taking out one of whatever big 1 wound unit he wants.

Tzeentch Veteran Marine with Psychic Potential

Ahriman is 250 points, but is shut down by a librarian. God forbid you fight Tyranids or Eldar. If it wasn't for the moronic FAQ that he can't use wind of chaos or bolt twice in a turn he might possibly be worth his points against armies without psychic defence. He's also toughness 4 without eternal warrior or terminator armour.
A Tzeentch sorceror with Warptime and Wind is 185 points, you pay 65 points to upgrade to Ahriman and gain an extra doombolt (or perils and kill yourself) against infantry. Or you gain... absolutely nothing against vehicles because you can't cast two Bolts. Or you gain the opportunity to cast the immensely useful gift of chaos power (or perils and kill yourself).
He's chief Librarian of the Thousand Sons, why he doesn't have a psychic hood is beyond me.
Might also help if he was like the Blue Scribes and got non-Tzeentch spells like Lash of Submission and Nurgle's Rot (mostly Lash).

Change and change until Change is our master, for nothing neither God nor mortal can hold that which has no form. Change is the constant that cannot be changed.
No game of chess can be won without pawns, and this may prove to be a very long game.

Is that true?
If it is true, it's likely because all the newer special characters have better, cheaper gimmicks making Ghaz's points not worth it when fighting them.

It's true in my experience.
Some of the new codex stuff kindof invalidates him (too many 'remove from play- no save allowed' things that make is 2+ inv useless) and he's a huge point sink.
You rarely see him on the table these days. I still use him, but i think i'm the only ork player in my area who does, and half the time he's repping a regular mega-boss.
