Just to be utterly clear - I didn't steal anything. I promise! They really we're gifts! If I was gonna try and rip off GW I'm an ex-stockist, and still have access to stockist prices. This isn't how I'd be doing it.
I don't think anyone was suggesting that you did. The discussion was more general with regard to consumer rights.
I have. Basically, GW seem to have a new policy. Here are the issues;
1 - They will not return ANY purchase worth over £100 without a receipt.
2 - They will not return ANY product bought after 14 days without a receipt to prove where you bought it. Apparently they can track purchases for 14 days, but these clearly fall outside that - I've had them longer than 14 days. Crap on a stick knows when they were actually purchased, or who from.
There may have been another clause, but those were the two that were biting me in the ass.
I know it is a pain in the proverbial for you, but it does seem fair enough as a policy.

Oh yes, I know. I don't like it, but it's still quite liberal compared to some shops I've been to. I'm just irked because it was a sudden change that no one seems to know about, and a rather unpleasant surprise given the effort it takes me to wander to Games Workshop (as a few folks may know, my left knee only works with protest...hence why I can be so damned slow to ship things) so I wanted to be sure.
It would, however, be nice if Games Workshop informed everyone of the changes...

Which is exactly why these days most businesses (at least around here) will offer exchanges without a receipt. Not everyone running a business agrees, though.

The key part is "return". They ain't giving you cash without a receipt. However, they will certainly exchange it or give you full credit on a gift card if the item is still in the original box, with shinkwrap, and is current product/packaging. If you come in with something that's been phased out or switched to Finecast, you may be S.O.L. but otherwise you should be good.

I'm going to go and buy $1000 worth of stuff at TheWarStore now. I then plan on returning it to GW to get my money back. (20% increase in pending funds.) See the point of their policy?

No, they really won't. I swear, they won't exchange the stuff under those conditions - I've tried, it was my goal. The two sets are the Mines of Moria and the Blood Islands ones - both in print, both totally sealed. And they absolutely would not return, refund or exchange. Scout's Honor. Which really doesn't work for me, as I was never a scout, but you get the idea. They're having none of it.

Wow, this is a big change from when I worked at GW.
We had a conference once with the CEO at the time. Basically, they had everyone in the room stand up. The crowd was basically HQ and manager trainees.
The trainer would give a scenario, and you were supposed to sit down when he reached a point where you would not take a return.
A. sealed box. No one sat down.
B. Opened box. A few people sat down.
C. Opened Box and glued figures. Alot of people sat down.
D. Opened Box with glued and partially painted figures. Most of the people sat down at this point.
E. as above, missing figures as well. A few stalwarts still stood.
The answer was....E. No matter what, you took a return and gave credit. Things sure have changed in 3 years!
