Still waiting to see where people get this about the tech. Really. I've read numerous articles and I haven't seen Nintendo say it anywhere.
I think its just an extrapolation of what the system is capable of running, as Darksiders 2, for example, will be a launch title, and also appear on 360/PS3, so the underlying tech won't be insanely different. And from what I've heard/seen (albeit not much as I haven't done much research into the Wii U), it will be "better" than the 360/PS3, but not much so. Who knows, it could be better enough to have equal parity with the next round of consoles; I have no idea.
However at that point, if all the systems are the same, you're basically paying to use that fancy controller; which does nothing for me personally. I don't care if I can look down and see my inventory on another smaller screen in Darksiders 2, I can hit the start/select buttons just find on my 360.

That seems like an odd jump of logic. Call of Duty World at War was released on the Wii, but the games were completely different. Games released on the XBox looked infinitely better than they did on the Playstation 2. Just cause you're running the same game doesn't mean that the game will be of equal or even similar technical ability. Especially since a straight port wouldn't be capable of taking advantage of the new Nintendo DS- I mean Wii U controller.
I'm not saying it's impossible but I just don't see why Nintendo would do it unless they really have gone off the deep end. They're saving grace has been avoiding fighting Sony and Microsoft in a straight head to head fight. If they try to win that battle they're going to lose (at least in Europe and NA).

Well, they are taking this to a straight up fight; since games will be releasing on Wii U, 360, and PS3 (the same games, not a watered down version for the Wii).
It wouldn't be a straight port, but the bulk of the game would play on all 3 machines. Obviously the 360 version wouldn't have tablet controls, just like the Wii U version would have kinect controls; but its the same game.

I don't care if I can look down and see my inventory on another smaller screen in Darksiders 2, I can hit the start/select buttons just find on my 360. Well they arnt putting out specifics as of yet, but it was mentioned in a few magazines about the U having more power then current consoles. Heres a quote from GameInformer "As for the specifics on the Wii U's power, details are still sketchy, Nintendo has revealed only that the CPU is an IBM multi-core micron processor and the GPU is based on AMD Radeon technology. According from a report from Engadget, the GPU is "similar to the R770 found in AMD's last gen cards"which supports Direct X10. While not the most powerful GPU possible, this tech would place the Wii U's power slightly higher then the XBOX360 and Playstation 3" So there ya have it. Its games will look like the other 2s games current with the potential of looking slightly better. And as Ive mentioned, again this is my opinion, but I dont see the graphics of the next gen consoles being all that much more impressive. Sure they can get closer to that "photo realism" people have talked about for a decade now, but I look at some of the prettier games we have now and think "damn that looks increibly nice" Personally I think the next gen systems will focus more on what things they can do rather then how nice the games are. Will this get me my FaceBook fix, AND play farmville? Yes?! Then Im sold

So the Wii U supports DX10? Nice. Finally a console that can compete with high-PC graphics.

Exactly. New Nintendo system isn't the dreamcast of this generation. The Kinnect and Move are.

Seriously that comic had me cracking up. THAT is funny. But its true. I laughed when the other systems started bringing those out, because it was obvious that they missed the reason the Wii was out selling them, and heres a hint, it had little to do with motion controls. TBH there are many games where the motion controls are annoying to have, they sold because the systems were cheap, the games are fun, and you dont have to play them for an hour or more to try and find a save spot, you goof off for 10-20 minutes and goto work or something
