Yeah, an arm-mounted minigun should have 24" range.

When I use them I just keep them at max range. Opponents generally aren't too keen on shooting at them due to the stealth field. They can put out a large number of S5 shots and can pretty easily put out the hurt. Stealth field combined with a decent armor save and a good gun equates to a fairly survivable unit that can put out some decent firepower.

Yeah, the stealth field really does help dissuade the enemy from shooting at the suits. I wish that FWs could get that!

I do just fine with my little unit of stealth suits. I normaly only take 3 with a team lead with drone controller, markerlight, and 2 marker drones. Then I give my HQ a cheapo fireknife body guard with targeting arrays so that my hq team can easily opperate without markerlight support. This frees up my 2 pathfinder squads and my stealth markers to set up targets for my suits, broadsides and hammerhead, or firewarriors if need be. It works just fine, and if I am feeling frisky, I use the nifty 2 point fusion blaster on the team lead if necessary.

They never seemed particularly weak to me, though that may just be because I play guard, so I've always dealt with low Toughness. A toughness 3 would do well, because if I recall correctly, it's just a tau in a big suit, that's meant to be stealthy and quick, not a brute force player.

Their stealth field really messed with my gunline until I got an armored sentinel to step on them.

I've rambled away from the point. They're toughness seems fine to me. They're not lunky space marines, after all.

Maybe, I've overlooked the fact that they have a 3+ save.
