Okay, just because this is a tau thread doesn't mean that you should instantly ignore it.
Tau Stealth Suits have reactive armour and a burst cannon (minigun looking thing). They wiegh like 600 lbs, yet they only have T3.
I am satisfied with their S4, but their toughness is equal to that of a guard conscript. Orks have higher toughness, and they barely wear solid clothing.
What do you guys think?

Well, since Alerian and Akroma seem to be ignoring your inquiry, I guess it falls on me to respond.
Toughness isn't based on how much clothing a model has. A model's toughness is based on the number under "T" in your codex.
If you check the Tau codex, you'll find that Stealth Suits have a toughness of 3.
And, for the fluffy answer: Things like reactive armor effect the armor save. They have nothing to do with Toughness. That's why Terminators are T4 with a 2+.

3 T seems about right. They are the glass cannons. Their armor looks big, but that is mostly the stealth system and a battery for their gun.

I do agree that they are under powered but not on stats because, if they had T4 then a XV8 would need T5 to make it balanced, But i think it is just stupid that they have stealth armor and a stealth field but they don't get the special move stealth what is up with that? Can anyone tell me?

Tau should get that redone when they get upgraded, sounds stupid to me.
For T Question
T vaule is chucked around in GW like they dont give a
Ultramarine chaplain got angry at some nids and now has T6, Kaldor from the GK walks around in the warp all day and only has T5
A huge DreadKnight with void shield protecting the litttle guy only has T6 the same as some angry smurf chaplain,
But Ultramarines are one of the furthest up GW's rectum

just so you know imagine an Ork, a space marine, and a tau standing around in their street clothes. The Ork and the Marine are going to be less affected if they get punched in the arm, but the Tau might end up with some serious problems. The armor doesn't matter with toughness.

The armour can influence toughness, particularly armour such as a Battlesuit that for the Tau can the size of the model and make it superior to even a Space Marine.
As for the Stealthsuit, I'd personally make it Str3, T4 (switching around the 2 characteristics); this makes him more durable, but obviously weaker. This also keeps a divide between him and a Crisis suit which is much stronger and has a 2nd wound.

Stealth Suits are a contradiction. They have stealth armor, but they are also armed with short-medium range weapons. IMO, they should be armed with Heavy Burst Cannons (Burst Cannon with longer range) or Rail Rifles.

Because that's the role that Stealth Suits have in the background we have available.
They infiltrate into the enemy lines and utilize their weapons and markerlights to ensure that the firepower coming from the longer ranged Tau stuff is accurate and precise.
Their "Stealth" armor is so that they can get within the enemy lines, not so that they can necessarily "hide" and pour fire from within concealed positions amongst the Tau lines.

I also think that the T and S characteristics should be swapped around.
@Knox: armor does affect the toughness of a model. Just look at; say a grot compared to a killa kan. they are the same without the armour, yet I'm pretty sure that kans have higher T. And, just so you know, the whole point of having extra armour and not just little stealth nodes is to have more protection.

I would say that you know absolutely nothing about Ork Kans and that your message did nothing but embarrass yourself and that Kans are walkers not armored grots but RatBot pretty much did that and your ending comment made no sense at all and appeared to have no direct connection to this thread, What do you think we wear armor because it makes us look cool or attracts girls? No we wear it so we get to hear threads like this when a certain unit of bikers smashes into a unit of stealth suits that were between them and were the main assault was, and even though you killed them all because someone asked if they were still invisible, and saved you from having to clean the mess of stealth road kill yet you still complain that you lost two Tau and the only reason this is so long and angry is because a random stranger was doing Tai-Chi in my front yard.
So the Tau, and their stealth suits, and commander Farsight, and crisis suits, and pulse rifles, and anything else in the Tau codex I missed can go straight to the Tau equivalent of the McDonald's drive through and just rot there as their 300 pound cousin stuffs his face with Tau Big Macs ending up getting the sauce in the gears of his devil fish, getting it repaired on the spot, which ends up taking 3 hours, and then ordering more Big Macs!!!! I AM NOT SPEAKING FROM A PERSONAL EXPERIENCE, AND THEY'RE STILL ON MY LAWN DOING TAI-CHI!!!!!!!

My post was referring to Shrike325 saying how his stealthies actually make up for their points cost.
And I know that killakans aren't just grots in armour, and neither are stealthies. stealth suits are augmented battle suits with reactive plating and servos.
You need to control your rage online, dude. This isn't the rist time that you've exploded on dakka, and you've only been a member for a couple months. Watch what you say onlinem because it'll come and hit you in the butt later. DON'T TROLL TAU PLAYERS!

Well, now that that's taken care of, let's get back to the thread. So Mr. Shrike, how do you utilize your suits effectively?

Do they need fixed or points adjustment yeah, but I still like using them if I got the points and I'm going against vehicle units. I have been 5/7 on deep strikes within melta range the last several games and the other 2 I rerolled scatter with better results thanks to my pathfinder devilfish.

I think burst cannon overall could use a 6" range buff, giving stealth suits a better chance at being used as skirmishers.
