Thank you LegoBurner for posting this in here. I would have done so but I felt I had not the permission from you to do so, so thank again for the graph.

@ Adam, AgeOfStrife looks very small, which could be an issue. Did you see this as a problem when you were a member?

Being small does have it's advantages. They treated me well there. They are a close knit bunch. The disadvantages are of the less amount of information that larger amount of the hobby that you can get at other sites.

The most important thing to me is how friendly the site is going to be. If you want to just get information, you can do a google on it.

Oh I completely forgot about Librarium Online. I go there from time to time just to get a different perspective on the hobby.

But Dakka is the place to be. I have stated in the past on how well the Moderators are in here. I stand by that statement and I know that many in here will say the same thing.

Which is funny, because back in the day Russ used to be the consummate GW fanboy, and we were known more for positivity. Still, I tend to find that while complaining on the internet is many people's second favorite hobby, positive opinions still do okay, depending on how they're expressed.

Luckily you're here to say positive things to change....

Wait, that doesn't make sense.

Never confuse "people don't like things as much as I do" for "hotbed of negativity."

There's certainly a more abrasive grit to the average Dakka thread, I'll concede that.

It's only a hotbed of negativity if you post a scoop for a long ignored army, then say it's a fake days later, and then it eventually turns out its true. THAT tends to rile up the townsfolk!

Great chart, and this information makes a lot of sense to me; as I said earlier, most of the really good articles in Warseer date back to several years ago, the majority of these do not continue to the present day & seem to just stop abruptly - very few of them have been posted on in the last year.

chaos0xomega wrote:As for the color schemes, I find the warseer black and blue layout to be easier to read, but dakka is much easier on the eyes (i.e. it doesn't hurt/give me a headache).

I completely agree.

Hmmm I don't really agree with this, I don't think Dakka's members are negative at all, with the exception of the odd troll (which is normal for any forum).

The best thing about this particular signature is that by the time you realise it doesn't say anything it's far too late to stop reading it.

BlueRedPanda - I think the cessation of quality posts lines up with that big drop in activity right around November '08. IIRC, thats actually right around the time I got banhammered for no apparent reason, my guess is that whatever went down around that time saw many of the quality warseers leave voluntarily or by force (I know that I saw some of them posting on dakka not long after that occurred. And had a conversation about how much we hated the mods with one or two as well).

I really only post on Dakka, but spend quite a bit of time on CMoN; which is pretty much just painting and modelling.

I find most people here to have a decent sense of humour if a slightly negative air, although that may just be because i read so much rage in the News and Rumours section

The P&M sections here is damn good with most newbies getting constructive criticism and/or praise.

The showcase section could use some work though, most of the posts there are along the lines of 'wow! that's awesome!' regardless of the quality of the work on display. Don't get me wrong, there is some great skill shown on there but it is often drowned out by a tide of mediocrity and i get the impression it is a 'feel good' section for people to post in rather than (as i think it should be) a more highly critical P&M section.

I have not been to a single tournament with comp in the last couple of years. I go play tournaments every other week more or less.

I'd like to claim that the notion of comp being prevalent in europe is nothing but a myth / prejudice.

You mean like when you post in PP threads, for example? Or the general air of negativity when GW announces another of their business "brainwaves"?

There are often positive points raised regarding the GW models themselves, but I suspect a lot of posters have become jaded due to price increases or interesting business decisions.

Well Dakka certainly is interesting, much larger than my previous experiences. I think it has just the right amount of people on all ends to make a nice balance of opposites

Does anyone use more army-specific forums such as AdvancedTauTactica or Commissar.Proboards?

As an IG player, the thought of a forum dedicated to them appeals to me, although I think that C.P might be a tad small.

I also play Tau, and tbh ATT looks like it's very well done. Does anyone have much experience with it?

I used to frequent (mostly lurk but occasionally post) tauonline but they switched ownership and/or hosting about a year back and the quality there significantly declined. Most of this was due to a horrendous advertising scheme that had fewer posts per page and ad banners inbetween them... ughh.. ATT sounded nice until I started reading their membership requirements; I decided it sounded too cliquey for me and went with the other tau board although ATT does have some quality posts on it. B&C has already been reviewed and that's the only other racial specific board I've been to on any regular basis.

A friend of mine who played tau used ATT and said it was excellent. Of course it is fairly small in comparison but likely still good.

I don't think it's been mentioned yet, but Ammobunker.org is great for painting and modelling, though it is a small crowd.
I believe many of it's veteran members used to be part of the Warseer forums, but created Ammobunker when Warseer eventually annoyed them to a great extent.
