Warseer - Very good, very heavy (but effective, and good) moderation with zero offtopic discussion allowed, mostly good for the painting and other small subforums... stay out of 40k general and you'll be fine. The painting logs are the best part of the forum, and I personally really like the mantic forum. You need to have a high postcount before you can post anything even slightly controversial on warseer... I once got a week ban for typing the words "rub one out" as part of a joke. So, yeah, watch what you type on there, especially if you're a noob. It really depends on the mod though, some mods will send you a PM telling you to knock it off first (I once had an avatar that was the "Warseer" logo with the "W" and the "er" removed I was politely asked to change it so I did), whereas others will simply press the ban button.

Also, several established guilders on there pretty much have a free reign to flame whoever they want. Stay well, well away from this crowd, do not respond or react to them at all, they are hoping that you will take the bait so they can hit the report button on your post and get you banned. They will typically craft something massively insulting or demeaning that doesn't technically break any rules (e.g. no profanity) so that they don't get in trouble themselves, and then when you reply with even mild profanity, ban. There are some very skilled and longterm trolls on there who get a kick out of that sort of thing, it comes with the turf. Learn to recognise them.

There are more than a few members here on dakka with tales of woe to tell you on that note. In fact, don't flame anyone. Don't type in lowercase, don't say anything offtopic. Other forums might not strictly enforce this at all times, but warseer definitely does.

Apart from that it's really good.

Librarium.. I have an account, but very few posts, the reason being is that it is too "web 2.0" for my tastes, it's spammed with practically every widget and add-on in the book, and it takes ages to load.

The best thing that librarium does is making a subforum for each individual army. There are a lot of good niche communities on there as a result of that.

As for the *best* forums out there... my personal favourites are the ones dedicated to a particular army, it really is a great niche to focus on and build a community around. Warhammer-Empire, Bugmans, Da Warpath, all excellent forums.

Dakka, Dakka über alles,
Über alles in der Welt!

Ha, that is oh-so-full of win.

On a different note, I was looking through Warseer earlier on today & got to reading a thread that is over 500 pages long & 6 years old (IG tank thread) . . wow! Comparing this to Dakka, length-wise I can only think of Gitsplitta's Mantis Warrior Blog (200 pages), but this seems small in comparison. Also, as far as I know, the thread mightn't even be the longest thread in Warseer - it's only the longest I've seen.

Are there any threads in Dakka longer than this? Perhaps some in the DCM-only parts of the forum?

The best thing about this particular signature is that by the time you realise it doesn't say anything it's far too late to stop reading it.

DakkaDakka - its not as active as I would like it to be (warseer levels) but its a much more tight-knit community IMO. I recognize way more posters and their general dispositions on these forums than I have on any others. The moderators moderate with a moderate hand, the community in general is not idiotic, and when warseer-esque levels of dumb try to migrate over hear the community seems to band together to shut it down pretty hard with levels of hate and bile I have seen few other places.

I got horribly tired of Warseer. Avian and Harry are the only interesting people there, and Avian is the only one that I remember even being on there.
Dakka is the best.

After... 11 years? I think? Hell, a long time anyway, well before Portent became Warseer, I totally agree with this. I was banned several times from there, and never for outright trolling or abuse. Except for that one time I got drunk and started posting, but thats a whole other story.

Warseer has some great stuff going on. The rules forums are a great place to get anothers opinions on things, and the M, P & T pages are loaded with outstanding logs, but the community is just full of whiney kids and the moderators are never as impartial as they should be.

"Did you ever notice how in the Bible, when ever God needed to punish someone, or make an example, or whenever God needed a killing, he sent an angel? Did you ever wonder what a creature like that must be like? A whole existence spent praising your God, but always with one wing dipped in blood. Would you ever really want to see an angel?"
