@Chrysaor686.

Going on this information, I went to have a look. Announced within three months of each other, must just be a coincidence then, surely?

I didnt read that, but I wouldnt be supprised if Zenimax is going to keep their work all in-company in order to gain a significant advantage in technology over other gaming companies over the next few generations of games.

I mean, it's going to get weird snce ID cant be relied on for engines, they are indirectly hurting their compedators (which is kind of smart) by forcing them to develop their own engines or pick up something less featured.

IdTech 5 is only going to be used on Zenimax titles.

Not sure about IdTech 4, I know it was available for engine leasing before, not sure if anymore though.

It's basically an FPS-RPG.... why exactly they leave out customization when all they're doing is creating another generic boring white dude to play as anyway is never explained except for sheer laziness.

Not this again...Honestly, in a first person shooter, it really doesn't matter; you're just a set of arms and grunts. The interesting aspects of your character have absolutely nothing to do with his race or gender (rather, the purpose that he serves and the events that he helps unfold are what defines your character in RAGE).

Id states that this is not an RPG. It has a persistent world that evolves and changes, but that's about the closest attribute it has to an RPG. There is also crafting and inventory management, but crafting ties into the economy, and item management is much closer to a traditional first-person shooter.

So was... HITLER!

But seriously, I see no reason not to have the option to choose your race and gender in an FPS. It would really not be a lot of work, and would allow people to feel more involved with the character.

Yes it does.

You may not care, but I do. Stop claiming that I don't.

He didn't say you don't care. He said it doesn't matter.

IMHO, gender is the only important thing, for sound, because chances are you're going to be clothed and unable to see yourself anyway.

Not really. I care about a lot of things that don't matter. Like protecting the enviorment. Either way, the sun will go super nova and destroy it.

You have a very nonsensical definition of "doesn't matter".

A single player romp through a post apocalyptic wasteland with occasional 2p scenarios, complimented by brown, brown, and occasionally green-brown.....

Full 4 player co-op game with infinite guns, customizable classes, Midgets, and Skags, complimented by (slightly more) unique cell shaded and cartoony aesthetics....

I don't know about you guys, but I know which one I'm going with.

I've never feared Death or Dying. I've only feared never Trying.

Like any of us will be around to prove it.

And I'm not so much Nihilistic. I just know that everything has an end. And a new beginning. Like the gases from an exploding star may form a new one, and a new earth to will follow. Maybe a new sentient species. Like kitties.

I mean seriously. When I first saw this advertised I genuinely thought it was Borderlands 2. It's just Borderlands! The cartoony style may be absent, but the enemies even look the same.

For shame ID. They may have made Doom, but that was a long time ago. If knocking off other games is the best they've got, then all I can do is shake my head and sadly walk away.

*gets hat*

*walks to door, turns back with last hopeful look*

*sadly closes the door, slowly shaking head*

If it wasnt clear that your quite intelligent, I would rage.

If you have played doom 3 and Quake 4, you'll see that in fact, Borderlands copied them. The enemies are VERY much alike in Doom/Quake and Rage. ID are as unique as they were 10 years ago.

Nope, Rage is far too angry for me, I prefer my games laid back and not so serious.

I may have been being unfair, subsequent evidence has convinced me of that.

However, I have a new complaint. It appears to be only single player! I was hoping for co-op. This probably puts it in the 'thanks but I'll pass' section for me. I find I tend to get bored by FPS games these days unless they are co-op. Heck, it's getting that way for RTS as well.

Well, personally, I think he broke out of his generic boring white guy mode to reinvent himself. Good for him. Bad for everyone else. As Darkvoidof40k highlighted, I think it was the mustache that made the change.

Rage is using the ID tech 5 engine, which is what the developers were waiting for to make Doom 4, so I recon this game is more of a test for the engine.

But who cares, Doom 4 is gonna rock.

Its alright, if you want a non randomized first person diablo clone that is really, really easy.
Its not aweful, but there's nothing that really stands out about it, enemies are fairly boring, the AI is good enough to not get stuck on things but that is about it. Its a bit old school in that every enemy follows just about the same attack pattern that once you learn you are invincible.

It has co-op missions based around the legends that you can hear in the single player, as well is a multiplayer destruction derby type game.
