Mhm, I was less referring to a collaboration in that more than one author would write passages for a book, but more theorizing about a sort of "internal consistency council" where someone goes through the writings and checks if they are in line with the rest of the setting. The writers seem to maintain a clear distinction between "studio material, such as our army books and codices" and anything else bearing the 40k IP mark, which makes me believe that they would at least keep a continuity for this inner circle of products.

You know, just to make sure that no single writer does something really atrocious. A sort of fluff quality control, if you will. I just don't really think that nobody looks it over before it goes into print.

That's what I meant by collaboration. The 5 authors probably didn't all physically write the fluff for the Necron codex, but they made sure that the fluff was externally consistent with the codices for races it referenced. They did this in 3rd and 4th edition. This collaboration is gone in 5th edition. Authors not only don't talk to each other to make sure their stuff is consistent, they don't even look back at old fluff for the army. Reading new codices is like reading back fan fiction, and I say bad fan fiction because most people who write it have more knowledge of the fluff than most of GW's current codex writers.

They really don't care anymore and it shows.

I think the thing about regiments being increased in size to where they are around 1,000,000 men or more makes sense. Regimental scale can be entirely different in the 40k universe especially when you look at the scale of things. This is alot of people for a single commander to control though, so perhaps regimental advisors get involved more to help with running the regiment as well as the commisariat. From what i understand an IG regiment is usually led by a colonel then theres a second in command, a major, then companys led by captains, and platoons run by LTs, and squads by sergeants, and their corporal as an ASL. For particularly large regiments, around 1,000,000 guardsmen, as i said regimental advisors could have a more hands on role. The commisariat also could help or for example a Lt. colonel leads the regiment a colonel is second in command, majors lead say 4-7 companies, and you have your captains running your companies, etc. Besides they also combine forces, to form battle groups, 9th battlegroup of the Segmentum Obscurus for example, and regiments are organized with only a specific purpose, infantry regiments consist of infantry some chimeras and sentinals, armoured regiments of tanks, artillary of artillary, so no regiments a self sufficiant fighting force in case of rebellion.

That's why I think such a massive size would just be impractical. 10 regiments of 12.000 men would be much easier to attach to various armies all over the Imperium where needed rather than a single large chunk of 120.000 men that can only move in one bulk. It's like if your local public transport would always send out 10 buses to the same route simultaneously instead of just one, regardless of whether there's 10 people waiting at the station or 500.

Well, let's see if such numbers show up anywhere else...
