My experience with Hammerheads is that they are very durable, but they don't really do much damage when compared to 2 broadsides. Also, broadsides have a better chance of hitting without markerlights compared to a Hammerhead, and more instant death shots will destory more paladins. Also, broadsides generate much more aggro than one hammerhead. So investing in shield drones is mandatory. Consider a target lock on the team leader in case you need to snipe that last paladin in one squad.

My hammerhead also hates me and loves to roll 1's like it's going out of style.

From a money standpoint, broadsides are way more expensive, though. So I can understand if the OP is unwilling to shell out the dough.
