Shotguns are just that, shotguns with slugs or pellets(in-game stat represents slugs)
Nah a laser shotgun would be like the Metal Blaster or Protectrons Gaze from Fallout 3.

Also on the subject of gunshot wounds, when my uncle was a young 'un a farmer shot him with a shotgun shell loaded full of rock salt at close range for trespassing. It didnt even break the skin at a range of about 10 meters (30ft) but it put him in hospital for a day due to "shock trauma". I dont know how that pertains to IG shotguns but i thought it was interesting.

It was probably a mental thing.

I would probably have a breakdown if I got shot at, got hit, and survived.

even if I knew it wasn't a lethal payload it would jar some nerves.

Cato Sicarius, after force feeding Captain Ventris a copy of the Codex Astartes for having the audacity to play Deathwatch, chokes to death on his own D-baggery after finding Calgar assembling his new Eldar army.

Ah, I guess the 5E rulebook just wanted to list them both - the manstopper round for Dark Angels / Blood Angels and the standard shell for the other Chapters. A short internet search on the subject yielded a few old discussions about this topic, as well as that there was apparently even a fluff blurb that explained why the DA used more powerful shotgun rounds. Back then they were described as unique to them, but after the BA got them as well, a number of players speculated that this is a trend that would soon catch up with the other Chapters, too. Turns out they were right.

As a sidenote: said manstopper rounds are also available for normal people (well, gangers and Arbites) in Necromunda games, where they push shotgun damage from S3 to S4 as well, so it's not exactly a Marines-only thing. I guess it's just not standard issue for the Guard, being more expensive and all.

Mystery solved, thanks.
