My gw is 20 ish mins away by bus not too much mordheim but the occasional necromunda.

Whfb is pretty fun but it is so expensive I mean I have seen the same as you with the kids playing a demo game and not being able to get anything.

Hopefully soon the prices drop.

the fact that Fantesy is slightly cheaper on a per model basis is completely undercut by needing more models.


A little trick I found. LotR models are much cheaper and can be decent stand ins for some fantesy models. High Elves can be High Elves, Gondorian or Rohan foot soldiers can be State Troops, Orks and Goblins can be Orcs and Goblins, my LotR dragon has found new life as Galrauch, Dwarves can be Dwarves(no cannons though)

24 Ghaladrim(an even mix of 2 handed swords, Spears with shields, and bows. all wearing armor) is $33 compared to a High Elf warrior box which is 16 models for $35

you get 8 more models for $2 cheaper. granted you are stuck with 8 of each type and no command options, but you can work around that. the poses are also quite dynamic(but might cause issues when ranking up)

Oh well just get 1 normal fantasy set for the front rank and command and then fill the rest with those.

I find the lotr goblins look more serious than the fantasy ones.

Might just do that if I ever start empire.

Sounds perfect. 16 seaguard and 8 swordmasters. I am always looking for cheaper alternatives. I wish warmachines and hordes models were plastic. I think I would have made the switch already if they were.

I do really like the look of the GW line on stuff and am not really into the idea of Hordes or Warmachine as I like big blocks of stuff and though I've never played one of those PP games when I see 35pt lists I think how many models are actually on the field? And I do buy some stuff online, bitz traders and what not, I recently did some Razorgor conversions using Chaos Spawn and Savage Boars which would have costed me over $50 just for the bitz or I could just buy leftover bitz on ebay from a Chaos Spawn box and the boars alone and think I spend $15. I have a GW 5 minutes down the road I am fortunate though it is closed Monday and Tuesday

But I like to support the managerhe's cool we'll like text and stuff, and I know he gets a cut of the profit. Having said that I've played like 5 games down there and have spent personally probably $600 down there got a friend hook that has spent about $1k down there and my brother and his family which have spent like $200 so I think I should be square for a while, but I have army ADD and feel bad when I walk in with new stuff I got elsewhere. I know the store is on the furthest fringe of my metropolitan area, I go in and it's generally empty or just has a bunch of teenage and college kids hanging around so I feel they could be on the chopping block which would suck since no other stores have a strong fantasy base especially with the next closest store being like 30 minutes away. The store probably does take a loss but GW keeps it to promote the game in the area.

What I need to do is just finish up my Orks, Beastmen and Dwarfs and just consider myself done.

The local Gw when I am at school is pretty sweet the manager is awesome and so are 95% of the people there I think I spent my share of money there.

I have a good excuse to get cheap stuff from other stores or online because I make money during the summer and dont have a gw near by so I buy cheap online wooow win.

But ya I want a horde but dont want to drop the cash.

To solve that you make your front rank and command the normal box set and put the lotr on the proper sized bases and fill int eh gaps.
