I like the mindless automations and the unending tide killing the entire galaxy. It's just way better then them having thoughts, that means they have feelings. Nobody wants robots to have hurt feelings now do we?

I prefer a mixture,
I do love the whole idea behind the old necrons and the ticking time bomb threat that they are, but apart from the C'tan there was no intelligence which made no sense when you ahve a Lord leading them instead of a C'tan.
As a result i like the ideas that Lords have some intelligence but the masses of Necrons are brain-dead remenants of an ancient civilisation

Um, Necron lords are intelligent too, if you read the current codex... The current codex has intelligent lords leading followers of varying intelligence, with the warriors being basically automatons and the other choices being smarter.

Pariahs and Flayed ones, especially, are not automatons, as the Pariahs are newly built and the flayed ones are ambush predators that are used to incite terror in the enmy, which is hard to do if you are just a shambling pre-programmed metal zombie.

They may be a bit faded from their original selves, but we have no idea how smart the Necrontyr originally were. Judging from their tech level, pretty damn smart

The only ones that are shambling, unintelligent automatons are Necrons who have been killed several hundred times, as each death makes them fade a bit more. Usually this means the warriors, as they are the grunt troops of the army. The lords don't tned to die as much, and more care is taken with preserving them, so they will retain much of their original minds.

That's exactly what the old Necrons were.

A combination of the two, they should be the embodiment of death, but with the slight chance they just pass by you.

Yup.

There was a war between the Ctan-backed necrontyr and the Old Ones (and their creations like the eldar and the orks) called the War In Heaven, about 60 million years ago, more or less.

The Old Ones lost and were made extinct, but other badness happened near the end, including a flood of Enslavers from the warp because the Old Ones were over fond of making everything Psykers...

We can safely say that it was was 65.000.000 years ago. Because it was the same time Dinosaurs disappeared. Hm, it seems that it wasn't asteroid after all

The Emperor doesn't have a GKs unshakable faith in the Emperor which is....basically himself?

Yeah, lol.

Lords, Immortals, Pariahs, and Flayed Ones at the very least all were sentient.

Granted, I will admit the Necron codex did not emphasize this very much, instead focusing on the C'tan, but it was there.

Hell, Necron Lords, pre-5th edition, were even capable of speaking.

The Apocalypse Rulebook and Xenology both have instances of Lords holding a conversation, before Fall of Damnos I assume Xenology in particular is the longest conversation a Necron Lord has had in the fluff that I can recall.

Aren't Wraiths also semi-sentient? Or at least retain some instinct of the crazed serial killers and mass murders they once were?

Gods? There are no gods. Merely existences, obstacles to overcome.

Could be related, but not the final throes of the fight. The codex mentions humans being comical tree beasts at the time, which might put them post-ice age Austrolapithicus (sp? ), about 60 mil ago.

I'm not actually sure on this one.

Wraiths are not just modified Immortals, like Destroyers are (Wtf GW give me T6, stingy douches ), but the fluff has not said either way.

For the time-being, I am going to go with "no," mostly because their purpose is simple enough that they don't require much independent thought and are mostly used for surgical strikes against foes (Or as guards for certain Lords), and because IMO Wraiths are more terrifying without the sentience.

T5 actually. I like the old necrons. the idea of robots showing off their equipment whilst making alliances with living races and killing each other is a load of BS. The whole point about the necrons was that they were soulless machines whose goal was to destroy every living thing in the galaxy.

My first foray in 40k was with Necrons, and I will be really annoyed if the rumours are true and they change the fluff like that. Let's just hope there's not too much SPACE Tomb Kings going into the codex. All we need is Cursed Necron Scarab Prince.

Then Horus comes across the lone grot, somehow managing to kill the Emperor, and punts it into space.

Immortals are T5 standard, and the Destroyer base functions as a jetbike, which adds 1 to T. Was the joke. :3
