Because people are stupid.
Well, looking at the gameplay, it is extremely similar or Gears. Huge bulky guys carrying big guns basically. However, I found Gears to be extremely boring after the first one, and all of the gears games are basically the same (nothing new gets added), WHereas space marine is a totally new enviornment and stuff.

Theres only 2, and gears 2 while not a lot did add Hordes (awesome).
Well, based off of the previews for Gears 3 .
The real reason I dont like Gears it that it would've been alot more tolerable if I hadnt played so much Gears 1. And since I got bored of Gears 1, and Gears 2 has very minimal differences, I got bored of Gears 2 real quick.
So, an entirely new game mode, revamped Horde with base building and lots of awesome beat downs don't count?

Then you must not be looking at much gameplay then. It plays nothing like Gears. Looking like it and playing like it are entirely separate. Do you stand out in the open avoiding cover in Gears? Do you wade through countless enemies in melee in Gears? Do you have a shield that recharges as you perform kills? No, you don't do any of that in gears.

That depends. Is everyone using shotguns and lancers?
Do you have a shield that recharges as you perform kills? No, you don't do any of that in gears.
Yes you do (technically). A 'shield bar' is just a health bar by another name. Gears has recharging health.

And yet, it's recharged by running away and hiding. This one is recharged by charging into the fight and brutally murdering people. Noone who's played the demo thus far has said it plays like gears.

I would say Space Marine has more God of War influences than Gears of War ones.

How can you choose? I can't choose. I really dig Space Marines and I like modern warfare type games like Modern Warfare 2 and Battlefield 2 so I'll probably get both.
EDIT:
modern warfare type as in how it looks... using modern weapons, setting, locations, uniforms and all that... not necessarily how it plays...

Most modern warfare setting games play pretty much the same, though, with the main variations being in how they handle explosions and vehicles.

As said before, big tank guys with armor taking tons of bullets with big guns. The only major difference is the cover system in gears, and the heavier reliability on cc in sm. Are they exactly the same? Obviously not, but theyre very similar, and if you likegears, youll probably like sm.

So it's GoW crossed with GoW with some Global Agenda (jump packs, large maps with open spaces) thrown in? IE not really like any of them, but it has some aspects because nothing is truly unique or the originator of anything?

I'd probably say its more like War for Cybertron than anything, but more melee and combos.
I mean, the whole 40k genre pretty much does it for me though. I might pick up WFC and throw down in some of the horde modes this weekend in preparation for the demo on monday

Space Marine looks like a lot of things, its not bad if a game looks like a lot of things it depends on how well they execute it.

This. And of course, no vehicle transformations.
The demo is fun. The controls are tight and the melee is very well integrated. I'd say looking at it makes one think of Gears because it has the same over the shoulder view and you play a big burly guy
My only complaint from the demo is that I'm a little sad there isn't a cover system (but not that sad) and I find the health mechanic annoyingly tedious.

Not really. No counters for starters, just chaining hits, stuns and executions with the occasional special attack.

You find CUTTING ORKS IN HALF AS HEALTHPACKS to be annoyingly tedious?
I would respectfully disagree.
Also, I would NOT want a "cover system". A crouch button wouldn't be terrible, but I can get into cover myself, I don't want to snap to it.

How about you just download the demo next Tuesday? That will tell you more than any review ever could.

Well if its close, then they have something fantastic melee wise. Hopefully it'll be a terrific game, although I feel the community has overhyped it.

The reason I make god of war comparisons because both space marine and god of war reward health when you kill enemies, have quick time executions, lots of blood and gore, have open areas to take on hordes of
enemies and there's an emphasis on combo combat.

Yes, so do lots of other games, too. You gonna compare it to Dynasty Warriors (which, by the way, had most of those features long before God of War) too?

I don't think you're rewarded health for killing guys and I don't think there's quick time executions in dynasty warriors nor is Space Marine one big open area. I never said Space Marine is a God of War clone I'm just
saying it's taking some influences from that game when using melee combat, beside there's nothing wrong with that considering God of war is an amazing game.

When it's the only way to get health and I have to press a button to set up for the kill on generic enemies? Yes.
The armored nobs I'm fine with, but when I need health and am fighting a horde of generic enemies I found it a little annoying to have to press F and then E. I would prefer a different system where all enemies have a chance of being stunned and all I needed to do was press E for health. Having to go out of my way and break the combat is tiring.
Also, I would NOT want a "cover system". A crouch button wouldn't be terrible, but I can get into cover myself, I don't want to snap to it.
Hence why I'm not that sad There were moments in the first demo level where I kind of wished I could get some cover Gears style. Especially when shields are done and I haven't been able to get any health XD It's not a big loss.
Gonna have to agree though that I think the community is overhyping the game. It looks good but I'm willing to be its going to suffer from chronic content shortage like that that killed War for Cybertron. I worry the game will get old fast.

Dynasty Warriors was good until Dynasty Warriors Gundam. Damn its a guilty pleasure to mindlessly run around smacking people and having your allies comment on your skills every 100 KOs. Although I think I developed a bit of a disorder from that game, I always have to have a number of kills that is a multiple of 5.

Multiplayer is what will keep it alive, so it needs to be good; especially whatever they are cooking up for the coop. I think the community will be larger than DoW2, and the DoW2 community is still pretty decently sized for an RTS. It is only behind SC2 in terms of numbers of people playing it.
War for Cybertron was good, but it didn't exactly have the 40k license behind it...

People won't play a game that bores them whether they like 40k or not. TWfC isn't exactly from an unpopular IP.
Hopefully the campaign will be long enough with enough variety and the multiplayer will have enough maps and content to keep people busy. The CoD style Challenges and the Halo Reach armor customization should help with that

Yes, actually, there is. For defeating officers, sergeants, named chars, etc you're given health, although it's not the only thing that can drop (depending on the game there's a chance money or etc to drop, and there's usually a chance for a temporary buff or a musou (special attack meter, which is otherwise refilled by hitting enemies with your attacks) item can drop instead), it's frequently the primary way to earn health back. And it's not like Dynasty Warriors is the first to do this either, I was just mentioning it because it did this before God of War. Its combos simplicity or complexity varied between games-- light attacks start combos, heavy attacks end them... usually in later games one light and then a series of heavies is essentially the same thing as a finisher, usually launching an enemy into the air, doing a brutal combo to them, and then crushing them down onto the ground for a high amount of single target damage, while 2L and then heavy attacks were stun attacks, then the rest were usually area attacks of some kind depending on the character. Given the wide variety of characters, I'd say the potential combos (especially in Warriors Orochi, where characters could swap out in mid combo) were quite a bit more complex than in God of War.
