I liked the minty green until I put a wash on it. Now I am rather smitten with the purple. I think I'm going to pull out a Tau Pirhana and give it a run. Maybe a catachan/ rotting flesh camo.

In your wardrobe, looking for Narnia.

Minty green is a difficult colour... And the purple is really nice, yeah.
A camo sounds nice, maybe add some white? Looking forward to minty Tau!

Not a whole lot done this weekend, RL intrudes. I did manage to get 10 wing/lower body portions cleaned primed and painted. They have a little texture to them but I'm more worried about just completing them than having them be perfect, so forward. Some wings are not separating from the engine section so some creative masking will be necessary.

Auston, just found your P&M blog. Nice work! I think my favorite color scheme you've done thus far is the Alatoc w/ stippling. Fantastic. Next up would be the magenta scheme - you may want to try Sun Yellow, possibly mixed with a bit of Orange Fire for accent/contrast (complementary colors). As for the seats on the jetbikes, looks like you used Leather Brown. Why not try a darker shade, such as Charred Brown? And possibly try Plague Brown instead of the ocher for the Guardian. The ocher looks too gold. You'd also mentioned a while back about finding it hard to strip the metal bikes - have you tried acetone? Works like a charm on metal minis. I've managed to strip Wraithguard in <10 minutes using acetone. I'm subscribing to your thread, & will check back regularly to see your progress. If you get a chance, please check out my P&M blog - started with Ulthwe scheme last December, and have nearly 4K points painted. Too late for me to change the scheme. Would love to get your opinion on how to finish up my Wraithguard - am taking a poll before finishing the squad this weekend. Thanks, and keep up the great work!

Makhoy: Thanks for your kind words.
I think I am going to go darker for the seats, I have 2 gw snakebite leathers and 1 Vallejo and I really don't like them. I use them to highlight darker leather and I have no idea how i got so many. I'm not a huge fan of charred brown it's just too red, I'd almost rather use dark flesh highlighted with red gore for a burgundy leather. In this case I'm leaning towards bestial brown as a sort of Havana leather hue.
Here's a shot of some paint colors

left most is sun yellow from GW, then Naples Yellow from Golden, then Plague brown from VJ, yellow ochre from Golden, and raw sienna from...gak Golden or Liquitex i forget which i used they are identical.
As you can see yellow ochre is the same as plague brown. Sun yellow is just a little too bright for my pallet, I'm deliberately shying away from iyandyn. Part of the gold appearance may be the gloss, I'm going to spit some gold at the engine component rather than gunmetal and see if I like it, im pretty sure I will. So itll be gold lower, magenta middle and a goldish ochre top (rider) should balance out.

The raw sienna would probably look nice for the seats (base color). Am looking forward to seeing your results! How long will we have to wait to see the finished product?

Well with classes ratcheting up, the recent release of Space Marine, and my constantly shifting color pallet...probably a complete test model I'm happy with by the end of the month. And a finished squad of six every other week after that. Then I have to buy three fire prisms, convert a farseer or autarch, and decide how many and what guns on my vypers. I *might* have this army done by the end of the year. It still has to compete for time with my BAs and CFs.

I'm pretty meh about Vypers. The fins on a couple of them are warped so I will have to make replacements, I hate how the turret attaches...I may take this prime opportunity to convert them heavily, or go the expensive route and get hornets from FW although that possibility is remote.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
I may also R2D2 that gak and make the turret unmanned in an Eldar way.

Well true to my word I spit some gold at an engine component, and a color called spa blue. It was on sale so I had to at least try it, my wife was less than thrilled and after blue taking this model together I agree. I'm still open of C and C and opinions on either color, but it looks like Ill be doing gold for the engines and probably any accenting emblems I put on.

On the side: I've had a buddies WS for years, literally. And I just never found a way to paint them I liked. I finally decided I wanted them off my desk and my concience and asked him what color he wanted them his response: Pink and Purple...what are the odds. So heres the first one base coated next to a more standard color scheme WIP

I'll probably throw down another update later tonight if I get anything done...but Space Marine is soooo tempting!

I agree with you. From the front, the combo of the purple & blue looked interesting, but from the side it looks pretty bad. The gold is MUCH better! As for your spiders, I'll be interested to see what you do with yours (I did mine in a Spiderman theme pages back on my blog). Good work, keep the updates coming!

Thanks for the kind words guys.
Painted just short of a dozen frames. Took forever because I had to do two coats on each. Also primed 15 hoods. Should be a good week for the wild host.

Well, it's been over a month since my last update. Some unforseen events kept me away from the brushes for awhile, and then I got side tracked so...
Another whole jetbike is complete for a grand total of two. I wont repaint the test model until the whole army is done so at least I can play it sooner.
I had to borrow the wife's camera so the pics will be different. I started with a color comparison shot.

and here's a 4 shot of the latest completed bike

and my current WIP

So about getting sidetracked, any Eldar player knows that the jet-bikes are getting long in the tooth. And even if it wasn't for their age I don't think they fit the theme of the Eldar army. with the split half round front. I'm sure there are plenty of perfectly good reasons for it, I just don't like it. The Jes Godwin 2007 prototype retained the sort of hook bill front that I take issue with so... I drew this:

To give you an idea of scale it is just as long and exactly as wide as the current jet-bike, its just backwards. I split the hull more like the Eldar Common Tank Chassis. At this point I knew that a good base for the model would be a Reaver, mostly to save me from building the body myself, what I didn't count on was finding a support weapon platform to hack up in my Eldar junk box.

The support platform back was what I chopped it up for but the front is reasonable to stand in for some prototyping. Since my basic intent is to cast the hood to modify a Reaver frame I'll have to build the actual hood myself. I'm not going to mount the weapons on the lower frame. My intent it to take Avenger catapults and build them into an interchangeable pod that the rider looks over to fire. Like a WWI pursuit pilot. Plus to build the riders for new and old bikes I'll need a few boxes of DA and Guardians so spares should be plentiful. The lower frame is basically devoid of overt Dark stuff and once I clipped off the blades on the foot pegs they are good too.
So my list of parts needed at this point are:
Complete production ready hood
Weapons Pod
Foot Peg Wings

So that's my side project and progress so far. I should have hoods for the PIP bikes done either today or tomorrow and riders for all but the Squad leader by the end of the week. The modified DE head will take some time to paint.

Almost forgot about my other side project.
BANANAS FOR THE DICE GOD!

I really like the deep purple color scheme, but I may be a tad bit biased as it's ungodly close to the same shade of purple as the Eldar I'm doing, other than mine has black non-armor layers!
