It all really comes down to one thing
Is it fluff? or an actual game?
A regular tactical marine vs ten regular guardsmen would be a bit hard for the Marine.
A marine like Calgar or Lysander would have no problem at all.
BUT if the guardsmen were trained well enough, they could bring them down.

Gaunt's about 6 men killed about 2 Chaos Marines themselves.

Incidentally i think they kill a few more than just 2 but there are other circumstances.

They're not as stupid as the lore depicts them, I think.

Space Marines are also smarter, so they'd defintitly not attack alone, but still, one marine could probably kill, 10-15 guardsman

Kind of OT, but how many unarmed guardsman do you think an unarmed marine (no PA) could take before going down.

A whole fething lot. Marines are beefier and faster and can take alot of punishment before they go down even without PA. I'd say around 70-100.

depends on if its close combat or shooty... but remember the ork woudn't lose cause if we they die it don't count.... plus they's spore and thus more boyz would come out of the orkdying

as to the main topic... depends on if its open warfare or special missions really I'd say a space marine assaulting under cover of dark and segmenting fighting could take out alot of IG but in an open field ig vs sm maybe 3-4 assumign they all have their guns.. eventually thier lasguns will get through the armor... but ifi its close combat probably more than that unless there's a power weapon somewhere

In the BL books they make Marines more like ordinary humans so they are relatable. Their tactical ineptness is usually just the result of bad writing

Well they also make their enemies even more stupid to make them look smarter.

Primarch Bloodcup estimates her Legion Ponies are worth about 5 regular Space Marines.

I seem to remember a space marine in the Dark Angels Space Marines Battles book telling a guardsman that one round for his bolter cost more in time and labor to make than his lasgun.
In terms of training and equipment a SM is better equipped and trained than a guardie, and out of the scout company anywhere from twice to ten times older than his guard counterpart. The argument that ten guardsmen would easily kill a single SM is based on the assumption that they HAVE heavy weapons. Even with them, one mass reactive 50 cal bolter round in the face for the heavy gunners and the las gunners can use thier weapons for flashlights while they wait to die. But it's really just a moot argument until you apply key terrain, avenues of approach, cover and concealment, fields of fire...you know tactics. The guard are pretty fethed.
