Also, Land Raider should NEVER be able to acquire the fast rule. EVER. That's a really scary thought...

The idea is there though, but the implementation would need to be simple and elegant, yet provide the degree of customization we all want. It'd take a lot of work, that's for sure.

What, do you not like the idea of LRC zooming 18" turn one, then vomiting out a squad of TH/SS termies w/ lysander? all with furious charge/FNP?? whats not to like??? ... ... i see your point

Yeah, scary indeed. Being able to 'purchase' USRs or specific upgrades isn't the right approach though. Picture this.

Lets say buying army wide Furious Charge was X points.

Now let's say Fleet is worth Y points.

Is buying Furious charge AND Fleet for your whole army actually worth X+Y? No, its worth a whole lot more, as it turns a good assaulty unit (just furious charge) into a deadly assault unit (with the addition of fleet) as the unit can cover ground faster. Synergy between special rules would be a ridiculous endeavor to balance, and setting a fixed cost would encourage people to take as many as possible, especially in 2500pts games where 20-30 pts isn't a whole lot.

The way to do it is create templates or traits that confer a certain specialty or option to abuse creating a super army. But even that would take a solid year of constant playtesting. Then you'd have to do something similar for the non-marine codices, as the different Eldar craftworlds all fight in a unique manner with even greater differences than marines. Orks are also very similar in this vein. Imperial Guard wouldn't be exempt either (though the current codex does a good enough job). All in all, it would mean a pretty hefty overhaul, which is unlikely.

Or GW can just keep making MEQ armies better and better.

You're right. They should also ride giant thundersquirrels.

What a great counterpoint!

I genuinely don't know if that was meant to be sarcastic but I'll answer like it is. You can't pick and choose what unique units to steal from other codexes, you want furiosos you get thundersquirrels.

You see, to Auston, everyone is a Death Star; there's only one way you can take it and that's through a small gap at the back.

Uh huh. Like how BA stole everything from SM then got extra bonus stuff?
Also, it seems like you don't know what the mortis pattern is.
