Another aspect to look into is how they synergise with more of a footbased list which uses more regular inf squads instead of the usual vet spam. A large and unwieldly inf spam list lacks the mobility of mech vets, and can deploy less melta spam than usual except for PCS melta stack. The stormies are extremely handy by popping up anywhere you need and for the most part disabling either a high priority vehicle or an antihorde unit somewhere in the backfield. Using them to DS next to an incoming termy unit and using a x2 plasma gun and plasma pistol loadout for 125 pts you 'could' kill all 5termies, Automatically Appended Next Post: Also usually using inf squads as opposed to vets means you have more points to spare - perfect for the stormtropers to brodge the gap. People have only 10 vets with special.weapon soam in a chimera for around 160pts, or you could have 1 line squad with flamer plus a min size stormtrooper squad with x2 melta. One for at duties, other for general (if weak) anti infantry role

As someone who regularly uses Drop Pods, I really don't see this as too much of a disadvantage.
The key here is to make sure that you are trading your kill points for something that gives you a tactical advantage that will net you more than the one kill point that the Storm Troopers will net you. If you're trading them for a Rhino, it's probably a waste. If you manage to drop a Vendetta or a Land Raider with them, it's a much better situation.

On another note, it's nice being able to have Chimeras to scout and pop smoke for the rest of your Chimeras should you be going second. Or to have Infiltrators who unlike Ratlings, are a threat. Or to generally use them for flexibility in tactics...
Really, people got hung up on the "AP 3/S3" bit but that's filler to the fact that they can go out and get stuff done.

I know it was FAQ'd for Baal Predators at least that it's "Yes." Don't know if it's precedent or not, but GW hasn't answered one way or another? Huh...weird. That's a YMDC argument to repeat then.

Pretty sure that scout move is only a 'movement phase' and smoke launchers are used in liu of shooting during the shooting phase. so, logically, i'd say no.

Pretty sure page 62 of the BRB says you are dead wrong, without the need of any FAQs.
Smoke launchers are used in the movement phase, they simply preclude you from shooting in your shooting phase.

I love stormtroopers. I run them with flamers instead of plasma/melta (i prefer leaving the tank poping to the LRs and vets) using them as a troop hunter squad (even tho theres no "real" special weapons) with the str 4 flamers if you position yourself right you can really cause some hurt. Enemy player has a squad of lootas in cover giving you a hard time (most likely not due to there low BS and random amount of shots) give them a nice flamer shower as most people have already said. It all really depends on how you as a player use them.
