Well spotted! It's a shame that Games Workshop, despite having plundered the rest of pulp sci-fi, don't seem to have any parallels to Barsoom in the WH40K setting.

I just finished Firedrake and I could swear Tu'Shan calls him by his first name at some point, but I can't be bothered to look again.

Also, put a space after a comma and two spaces after periods.

We've told him that, Blacksails.

And I haven't read Firedrake. Is it good?

I enjoyed it more than Salamander, and its a pretty decent read for a 40k novel. I'm just relieved Nick Kyme didn't butcher the Salamander's name. Everything stays pretty true to the established fluff, and He'stan is actually a pretty cool dude. Its enjoyable and worth your time and money, to put it simply. I mean, I'm actually kinda excited for Nocturne.

Huh. I didn't hate Salamander, so I guess this is a must read.

Gotta get through all the SW books first, though.

Could probably make a John Carter figure with Chaos Marauder Body, Catachan arm with the chainsword cut off to be replaced with a power sword modeled to look like a saber, the other hand... i don't know...

Green Martians would be hard as well...

Conversion project!

Eh... there's only so many time I can read 'Ragnars bolt pistol spat death' until I get sick of it.

If you enjoy the Salamander fluff and are open to reading a 40k novel, Salamander + Firedrake are enjoyable. Don't get me wrong, its far from the best fiction I've ever read. Then again, I love Salamanders anyways, and the books do them justice.

I agree.

I enjoyed the books due to the subject matter, not due to Kyme's writing prowess. They both could have used an actual editor or even just a spell / grammar check. Further they seem like they were actually written by different people. Large tracts of Firedrake are of a differing writing style than Salamander, but there are certain areas where the style reverts back to the same one used in Salamander...usually when one of the marines starts whining again. Which tells me that either they were written by different people or Nick wrote sections of Firedrake at the same time as Salamander but later took an English class before actually finishing it. But that's just my opinion.

Yeah, I've thought that for quite some time.

They could have given a casual nod to Carter on Mars perhaps... maybe something cryptic, ah well.

BTW, we were being exceedingly clever here English Assassin... I mean, Charl'ton He'stan is quite good considering the myriad ways you can take the reference. Pat yourself on the back... I know I did.

Does anyone have any clues as to what he had pre-Forgefather? Wepons, equipment, style?
