Nottingham (yay!)

I'll have to nab me some tree bark, those are some great bases.

TL Deathspitters? Unusual. Chosen for aesthetic reasons, or you got something in mind?

@lindsay The Tyrant was bought at the bay so I only had this option. I will get my hands on a bitz pack someday and make them all WYSIWYG.

I'm a bit on a painting spree as I was able to finish my two hive guards today. It is kind of a milestone as they were the last T6 critters in the queue - time for a rewarding beer!

Wow! Excellent work here, mate! Love the color scheme and the actual paint jobs themselves. Top notch work there. Just a few questions on the models and paints.

1) Do you dip them at all? Or is it a wash?
2) What kind of tree did you strip the bark from, and what did you do to seal it from the elements?
3) What airbrush paints are those? Because I want some.

Thanks a bunch Chowderhead!
1) Nothing is dipped. The carapace and close combat weapons are done only with airbrush and drybrush, the fleshy parts were airbrushed with vallejo sand (more or less GW bleached bone), washed with ogryn flesh and then drybrushed with bleached bone and skull white for the final highlights. done.

2) Hmm, here in Germany you can buy them in every garden store in huge bags, something like this:

Ofc I just steal them from my neighbourhood any time I need more. I usually give them a good amount of primer and seal them with GW purity seal. From time to time they break apart but this can be easily fixed with some PVA glue.
I pin every model on one foot so you just can "plug" them into the bark. Combined with some superglue even my metal hive tyrant sits tight on its base.

3) Vallejo Model Air all the way! I'm such a fan of their colour line that I won't ever switch to something else.

Wait - Does that mean no more awesome 'Nids? Sadface...

Anyway, another question (I have been asking a lot haven't I... ) I had was how you did the claws and scythes and tails and such. Is it paint blended or airbrushed?

EDIT: Aww! You took away the Lictors!

Good work!
Nice to see another natural coloured hive fleet making use of the fantastic Ogryn Flesh paint.

Yeah, I hate appendix posts! Ofc there will be some more nids in the future. Next in the queue are 5 warriors and around 30 hormagaunts, then I have my current 2000 points list up and running. But I will likely expand this force by some other evil critters!
The close combat weapons are airbrushed with a tri-fade. First coat is vallejo pale blue mixed with some black, followed by pure pale blue and skull white. Finally I give them a light skull white drybrush. It's an extreme fast method as I'm able to "batch-spray" around 10 critters in 15 minutes!

Thanks, mate! Loooove your nids, especially your counts as minis!

-----------------------------------------

It gets a bit scary now since I managed to paint my three lictors today - in under three hours .
It seems that I'm really used to the painting workflow now and I can't really imagine that this whole project started just one month ago. I never counted me as a really good and fast painter but I finally found the minis that suit my painting style! *happyface*

Thanks Lindsay!
I'm pretty amazed that my lil' bug made it on the official GW website, that'll keep me motivated to paint the rest of the critters!

Btw... no updates for a while as I'm working on my modular gaming table and some terrain pieces.
I bought and painted the board two years ago and the look of it always bugged me a bit as the paintjob just wasn't adequate for a 200 Euro plastic board.
Now the whole thing will be covered with a PVA+sand mixture and all terrain pieces will be integrated into the look of the ground surface.

I will definitely keep working on the 'nids but the progress won't be as fast as the last month!
